View Full Version : Need a dedicated
Craig 04-03-2001, 05:37 PM Hi there, in about a months time, possibly less were wanting to move to a dedicated enviroment.
I just want prices.. around 100£ a month please (160$)
What i NEED:
about 50Gb transfer with about $3/gig for any more
Ip address, about 20 or so, with more cheaply, about $1 an ip.
20Gb space + 40 If i can stretch it
CPANEL - something i can use to control the server and give it to my clients. I want to be offering a reseller package... So i think this is a must.
Located in a GOOD NOC, VDi or something
Let me know via posting here and/or email, craig@flump.net
Thanks
Craig
Craig 04-03-2001, 05:44 PM Not forgettin subdomains. :) need em :)
dektong 04-03-2001, 06:01 PM So you want a dedicated server with 20-40GB of HD and 50GB of transfer, including some sort of Control Panel for around $160/mo? Is that right? Will you be considering a shared dedicated server?
cheers,
Craig 04-03-2001, 06:45 PM I just want to know what sort of thing i can get for that sort of money :)
Cheers
Craig
Peeps 04-03-2001, 06:48 PM Not much.
Craig 04-03-2001, 06:54 PM I know there are some good offers out there peeps.
I know i wont get what im asking, but just want to be able to expand. 20Gb transfer would do for example.
Those 79$ dedicated servers were a good buy, would have had one of those.. if i needed it then heh.
But thats life ;)
phbroad 04-03-2001, 07:12 PM http://www.weinbar.com/redhatserv.html will give you an idea of prices (so you can see which are the cheap & expensive bits and decide whether you really need them).
Have fun,
Philip
P.S. - now you have to explain The Flumps (this could be one of the longer explanations on this forum!)

Aha... but then you are forgetting something... These deal only offer you quite a small HD space (about 10GB) and 128MB of memory (for me, not enough... I want my server to have at least 256 MB of memory). Also, the transfer is most likely be only 10GB... Finally, you won't get any sort of control panel, except probabyl free webmin and free one-domain license plesk (pretty much useless if you are thinking of going to provide control panel for your end-user/clients).
Alright... Serverhost.com used to have the $79/mo dedicated server (but now, I think the price went up to $99/mo). This only includes 10GB of transfer and no control panel (again with only 128MB of memory, 10GB of HD and Celeron CPU). If you need CPanel/WHM, it will cost you an additional $99-$199/mo if you choose to go with a host outside of VDI.
Thus, if you want to use CPanel/WHM, the best way to go is to find a dedicated server hosted with company inisde VDI (for only $25/mo), but I have not seen any company there offering a dedicated server for less than $199/mo.
Thus, I would say.... $160 would not get you anywhere especially if you are looking for CPanel/WHM and also 50GB worth of data transfer... On the other hand, if you want to share a dedicated server, it might be a different story....
cheers,
Craig 04-03-2001, 07:53 PM I should have made myself clearlyer, its just been one of those days and im not really thinking straight :)
anyway, Right i wanted to know the bare cost of the dedicated server, Control panel will follow, ie. i will look at the options once i get aprice on a dedicated
the price i want to spend on the server should be about 160$ a month, just wondering on the spec etc i can get for this.
I would prefer a VDI host, due to cpanel
Thanks
Sorry i should really have this thread scrapped and start over shouldnt i :)
Just one of these days Today, example: i was driving back home on a open road, i saw 2 kids on the pathway riding their bikes, i was doing about 55-60mph (speed limit is 60mph too).
as i was driving i thought "i bet one of those kids comes onto the road" and what happend? about 50feet away he jumps, without looking, onto the road!! just as well i thought ahead and *just* had time to slow down.
He didnt half get a telling off ;)
Cheers

That is incorrect.
There are other distributors besides VDI.

dektong 04-04-2001, 04:46 PM Sean,
I forgot that you too offer CPanel/WHM for only $35/mo. Is this also the case even if you move outside of VDI? Regarding the other CPanel distributors (liquidweb and wizardshosting), they can easily afford that low price since they are hosted inside VDI (was wondering whether this is the case with you). I have no clue what the price powersurge.net will charge since they are using HE as their NOC... Anyway... Thank you for the clarification....
BTW, how is the T3 upgrade going on with your new NOC?
cheers,
BurstNET 04-04-2001, 05:16 PM Yes, we offer Cpanel/WHM at $35 month outside of the VDI NOC, and have been doing so for 3-4 months now. This price will continue after we have fully moved out of VDI as well.
Our DS3 loop from Verizon is coming this week, the bandwidth from Sprint is turned on a few days later. Then there will be a period of testing, followed by placement of all our equipment/servers into our new facility. There is a second DS3 coming in June as well. The loop is already on order (using Commonwealth Telephone for redundancy over Verizon), we are just deciding between AT&T or Cable & Wireless at this point (they have local POPs in Scranton).

cimshimy 04-04-2001, 07:59 PM I think if you are looking for a deal like that, maybe you should consider saving a few months of the money you'd put into renting a server, build your own, and then colocate it yourself at somewhere like interserver.net or something. They seem to charge $40 less than your budget for 30gb of bandwidth, and $4/additional.
I put together an Athlon 900MHz, 256MB PC133 SDRAM, an Asus A7V133 Motherboard, a 20GB IBM DeskStar 7200RPM ATA/100 Harddrive, a 3COM Ethernet Card, and a 52x CD-ROM Drive, all in a 1U Rackmount case for around $680, inclusive of shipping charges.
Hope this helps,
Andrew

*ahem* ;)
Site5 is no longer located inside VDI, and yet we still offer Cpanel/WHM at no additional charge. (refer to my signature)
