View Full Version : Copying & Pasting

I know this was enforced slightly, however I think this is something that should be enforced more:

In the webhosting requests forum, many companies are just copying and pasting EVERYTHING they offer, long paragraphs on why they should choose them, etc. For example, every scripting language is listed and what version it is. Long lists of things that the user didn't even request are listed.

The only reason that I oppose against this is because you get pages that are supper long, with users listing everything they offer. Don't you think a link would be easier and not consume as much space?

I think that all responses should be somewhat custom... not copied and pasted from a website of TXT document.

I also don't care much for seeing people post "email me for a great offer". The point of the forum is for hosts to offer the client something.... not to have the clients contact you.

Anyway... thats just my $0.02. I think it would benifiet both the poster and the companies. Opinions?

in the words of the high master of the forums...if you see something you think doesn't belong, report it...

but yea you're right, some of the offers are more like ads. i take the time to handright (type) each ad and try to make it unique to the request :)

I slightly disagree.

Reporting it and saying it on the main post (infront of others) is embarrasing and not favorable to the other person. Maybe they dont remember or know the rules at that particular moment. After all we are all humans.

So the best way to advise a person effectively is to tell them in private once and if u dont see results go ahead and report it. That is my opinion and believe since i have seen good results from it. People actually learn and feel good towards the other person, instead of feeling stubborn after getting embarrased infront of a group. Embarrasing them will not make them learn but will create animosity instead of friendliness and the person could be on the hunt to get back to the one who pointed out his mistake in public... very dangerous since we dont want un-friendly behaviour between any human beings.

But if the owner of the forum the person who runs it, wants you to report it no matter what without giving any chance to the person who wasn't 100% on rules, then one should do what the owner says. Rule of the land.

On the other hand, if we want to be friendly and use the most effective method, its the one i mentioned earlier ( this is also what we apply when we preach religion, not embarras someone infront of a group, just tell them about a particular topic in religion in private so they learn and understand , think about the rules instead of being stubborn on their violations ".

i meant reporting it as in clicking on the report link at the end of each post...

...but with some "idgets" (as used by another WHT member) embarassing them is the only way you can get them to learn....

I edited by above post and put your answer there :) I am sure you will find good advise in there. since its one of the many advises i learnt from scholars over the years.

We all are humans, we all make mistakes.

Like akash said, report it.

Like AmericanD said, PM the person.

Not neccessarily in that order.

Once upon a time; there was an announcement stuck in that forum that explained about the copy/paste thing. I was lots less understanding about posters then.

I still have little patience for members who refuse to either read or respect the rules. It isn't that hard. They're there; read them. If you can't understand them, have your mom explain it.

That thread is still there (the one explaining how to post replies), and 'email me' isn't acceptable. All people have to do is...

1) Read request fully.
2) Make offer that matches.

As for the long ad thing, well some people like that (gives them as much info as they need without having to go to the site), others hate it (too much information). Personally, whatever floats everyone's goat is fine by me. No one if going to agree one way or another however, so really the people making the requests should be polled as to what they prefer. Am I going to poll the last 100 requesters? Ummm, no.
