What MTA are you using? You might try sending yourself a message and reading the log files at the same time, to see if the mail is getting to the server properly. The logs may also tell you if there is an error.

thedigitaldream.co.uk. IN NS srv1.thedigitaldream.co.uk.

thedigitaldream.co.uk. IN MX 10 mail.thedigitaldream.co.uk.

Change to above two entries , and i i think you should be fine

i tried that with no luck :(

do you think its a problem with dns, or sendmail itself. I quite fancy using qmail

did you check if bind is switched on

Is your problem only with email or email as well as your site

bind is on, everytime i have altered my records i have restarted it

i dont understand

the problem is Just email

you can run nslookup's on thedigitaldream.co.uk and you can ping it

also i used this dnsreport.com to test my email settings and here is the result :

http://www.dnsreport.com/tools/mail.ch?domain=matt2kjones%40thedigitaldream.co.uk

its weird :(

ok been playing around with the dns testing tool a bit more

and i have noticed something.

clcik on the two tests below. one is an email address that DOES exist

and the other doesn't

the results are different. Surely the dns must be right if it can gather this info.

an email address that does exit (http://www.dnsreport.com/tools/mail.ch?domain=matt2kjones%40thedigitaldream.co.uk)

An email address that doesn't exist (http://www.dnsreport.com/tools/mail.ch?domain=agthsythsyht%40thedigitaldream.co.uk)

so what do you think could be wrong?

i can send email from one @thedigitaldream.co.uk address to another

ok i found out what the problem was, my dns was right all along!!!

its because i had only left it 48 hours after chaging the records at my registrar!

after about 55 hours mail from hotmail (a company i have been sendmail mail to my server from to test it) started to arrive in my inbox!!!

and now i have sent mail from hotmail and ntlworld and they both go into my inbox.

i never knew it could take over 48 hours for dns to propergate!

thanx for all your help people

next time i will be a little more patient

thanx - Matthew Jones
