My website is HostThru.com I was wondering if I should give a trial period for customers or should I offer like a 7 day money back if they dont like it. I offer unlimited hosting on one of my packages I have had very good results with that.

I was not trying to advertise but I posted my link so you could get an idea of what my package contains and yes it is unlimited. I can offer unlimited because we host many people already. I'm intergrated with another company.

No, you should't offer free trial, you don't know who can take advantage of it.
Neither you should offer something that you can't provide, like unlimited space and traffic.

Yeah, I've never heard of "unlimited bandwidth". I had also been told there was no such thing, which is corrobrated quite nicely. lol

unlimited means we dont really cap your bandwith. we dont stop you at a limit. but if it was to get outrageous we put you on a special plan

if that is true you should label it as such. you can't advertise unlimited banwidth and then by some small chance have a site that gets "outrageous" and change the plan.

people will just get mad. lol

does your TOS define outrageous??? if i was your customer i'd define outrageous as being 1000terabytes a month, anything less than that and i see no reason why you cant host me...

Personally, I believe the Money Back Guarantee is a better move because that would weed out those who just want to have a free ride.

With a free trial, I believe you could sign up without paying or do not have the intention of paying. This might open you up to abuse for those hosting, say warez, upload 10gb of files within a day, open it for hosting during that 7 days and leave once the trial is over and thus accumulating several gb of traffics without paying a cent for it. In the end, the one who would lose out would be you. Besides, warez sites do not last very long and usually are found out and shut down in a matter of weeks or days. You could always check the contents of the sites you host but once a damage is done, it would take time to recover.

Alternatively, they could sign up for the free trial, send out millions of spam a day and leave you to handle the after effects of the spam.

If you however offer the 7 days money back, they would probably need to submit their credit card information or if you do not provide immediate set up, you could verify the validity of the account. Some host do require you to send them a fax copy of some identification and so on before setting up the account.

With some form of accountability, it would help weed out some of the 'bad'.

By the way, your order form seems to yield a Error 404 instead. Thought you should know.

The idea that people are giving you is to drop the false offers. You don't offer unlimited services. You can't offer unlimted services for a fixed price. if you try to claim you can, everyone will call you on it. This you should expect and get over it or offer something realistic. Period.

I know, your provider claims to offer you unmetered bandwidth dedicated servers. Their site crawls open, your site crawls open. Aside from that, you really think they offer you the full monte for $99-$160/mo.? -And did you read the terms?

8. xxxxxx makes no service level warranty or guarantee. Customer agrees that xxxxxx may not be held liable for damages in the event of unavailability of Customer data over the Internet.

That is one heck of a SLA...

hey first of all my terms of service is not on the site yet. so i dont know where you got that but take your bs somewhere else.

HostThru.com

Your site is down so I wasn't able to see what your unlimited plans were.

[rant_mode_on]
As far as your question about offering a 7 day free trial. I can tell you if you offer a trial plan, that you are guaranteed to have trouble. Spammers look for plans like this and within 1 hour of their account activation, your server has fired off 50,000 emails. Then after you have canceled their account, they will use your address and web site as the return address for their spam messages.

But wait, there's more...

It only gets worse from there, one of the spam stopping companies (too many to list) gets complaints and blacklists your ip address. Then to top it all off your provider kicks you to the curb for breaking the rules of their T.O.S. by sending spam.
[rant_mode_off]

If you are offering a quality service then people serious about using your company will and should be willing to pay for it. If you are offering unlimited plans, then be aware that consumers have become educated that unlimited is not really possible and you may loose potential clients just because of this statement.

Now using the words you did doesn't attract people in the slightest bit. Sounds very unprofessional if you can't keep your cool while defending your post. You may want to listen to everyone here considering that you CANNOT offer unlimited resources like you claim.

How come when i try to access your site i get a 403 FORBIDDEN error? Now what does that say?
