Hi all,

I will not lie to you so I will try to as upfront as possible.

I am 22 years old, and I have been working for the same company for almost 4 years.

I have a BTEC National Diploma in Computer Science as well as a HNC In Computer Science.

When I joined my present company (They are an agricultural company) I was young, and I signed a contract that states I have to give 6 months notice if I want to leave.

I believe that this contract doesn't hold water because of the role I play in the company.

When I started work there, I was a Technical Support Co-Ordinator but as of September last year, I was promoted to IT Manager.

I am the only IT person in the company now, and I look after 80 laptop users and 14 depots.

My skills are in Windows NT Server, Win9x/ME/2K, Linux, Apache, MySQL and the basics of webserver administration.
I also have attended courses on Windows NT Server fundimentals and advanded, as well as SMS 1.2.
I am also learning PHP in my spare time, and I learnt C/C++, Modula/2, Pascal and Assembler when I was at college.
I am also into webdesign, but my graphics skills are not that great.

The reason why I am looking to leave this company is because I was not happy there any more - it got to the stage where my development wasn't progressing and doing the same tasks over and over again because frustrating.

To top it all off, I was being paid £17,000 for being the IT Manager and they were not willing to increase it.

I live in Brandon in Suffolk (About 35 miles from Cambridge) and I have no car (the current job gives me a company car).

What I am essentially asking is if anyone knows of any places where I could look for work - either working from home or with a company car, or if I should just stay with this current job?

Regards

James

I don't know if this is any help, but depending upon how much your job changed you might be able to demand that they either release you immediately or pay you more. Most nations (I believe including the UK) have a legal construct known as "constuctive dismissal" which basically says that if a company wants to dramatically change the nature of your employment (eg, move you from tech support to IT manager) they have to either negotiate a new contract with you or pay whatever legal penalty as would be associated with firing you.

Of course, IANAL, (and IANITUK) so you might want to consult a local lawyer.
