Just took a browse over to the trustworthy tomshardware guide. And saw that they just reviewed the athlon 2800, with 166mhz bus(up from 133). Its an excellent article, and shows much light for amd in the 2003 season.

Yay for paper launches where the product isnt even out yet, but theyve got pricing and benchmarks. Intel will have 3.0GHz in October and most likly 2.4GHz or so in Q1 03. Newegg doesnt even have the 2600+'s in yet. And they were launched a while ago and were said to be ready in September.

The article I linked to deosn't even compare the reviewed drive against any SCSI drives. Yet they make the claim that it "outperforms SCSI drives" in the title no less.

Not really, in addition to fincial performance sucking for over a year now...

Much to the dismay of anyone hoping for a lower cost alternative to the current speed king or even just those looking for a little competition, CNET ( http://news.com.com/2100-1001-957757.html?tag=fd_top ) is reporting that AMD pushed back the launch date of Clawhammer by a full quarter and is delaying Barton based Athlons as well. Expect actual Clawhammer die to be in your grubby little hands by the end of Q1 2003 or maybe the beginning of Q2. Barton may hit shores in Q1 assuming no further delays. AMD is spinning it thusly:

The delays are occurring to accommodate the release of a new version of Athlon with a 333MHz bus, said [John] Crank [Senior Branding Associate at AMD].

Riiiiight. You're pushing back your killer new processors because you want to bring a 333MHz FSB to market under a slower technology first in order to... what? Prepare us for the impending coolness? It seems the much anticipated 333MHz FSB sporting Athlons are actually some what of a mixed release. This certainly spells good news for Intel as AMD continues to miss launch dates...

AMD is not doing well at all, computer sales in general are down, people arent loking for the fastest CPU (which is where the largest profit is for manufacturers) anymore, and AMD is missing launch dates and is having fab issues.

Well everyone is entitled to there own opinion. For myself, I like tomshardware, all of his bench marks have been trustworthy. I even downloaded all of the bench mark programs, and ran them on several computers myself to see what kind of consistancy there is. All of them were on par with tom's, I just like the fact that that is problably the biggest hardware review site, and developers realize this, and send him all the goodies before they are out.
