View Full Version : Hmm... Network Solutions & GreatDomains

I was over at NSI website, and I noticed a link to GreatDomains. Since it's been awhile that I visited GreatDomains, I thought why not and clicked on the link. When I got to GreatDomains, there was a small popup window displaying the words "Exclusive Value Names For Sale!" The first thing that came to my mind is that it's referring to expired domains. So, I followed the link and looked up some names. According to GreatDomain:

"These Domain Names are available for two-year registration through Network Solutions at the special price of $50. Transfer will take 4-6 weeks to complete. One-day Express transfer processing is also available."

FYI, the one-day process costs $199. Okay, nothing new about their high prices.

I decided to examine a few names to see when they had expired. I used NSI's whois and found that these names had not expired! In fact, they were registered recently through NSI, yet GreatDomains was allowing me to register these. Well, I can't say for sure because I chose not to complete the order process... just in case these names belong to fellow forum members.

Isn't there a law that prohibits selling an item twice?

Who was listed on the whois maybe great domains bought a whole bunch up themeselves and are turning around and reselling them.

I checked a few and as far as I could tell, although you might think you are being allowed to register these, you're just buying them.

I've seen this numerous times with Network Solutions.

There is a very good domain name that I attempt to register twice a day that expired back in October of 2000. It's always unavailable, because NetSol has put it on hold and given it to Great Domains.

What I've noticed is that the former owner's WHOIS information is still visible. You won't find an expired domain that says Great Domains is the admin/billing/tech contact, or has their name on it in any way.

I've even called NetSol about this. If you can stand to be on hold for 30 minutes, you'll finally get to talk to someone who doesn't really know much about it. I was transferred to a supervisor, who would not answer my questions about the Great Domains monopoly on expired Netsol names.

Just my 2 cents worth.....

Ahh that might explain a lot actually. I've been looking at a domain myself that expired in November last year. It's still yet to become available though it's pretty obvious it's not going to be collected by it's original owner. What a circus...

I think Network Solutions is really slow to transfer a domain so you had better to use other ICANN registrars.

Opensrs have a interesting control panel, but I honestly preffer the Enom or Register control panel.
