View Full Version : Do you smoke?
okihost 09-27-2002, 07:21 PM I did a quick search and didn't see it listed so I just wanted to see how many of us are still smoking those nasty ciggs. I quit a little over a year ago after smoking for 6 years.. One of the best thing I ever did I actually can breath better.. the other funny thing is I can smell a smoker from 100 yards away now.. I never noticed it before but once your not around it for a while you really notice it.. I have also noticed less and less people smoking I dont know if it is more because people are realizing the risks of it or if people are getting sick of the prices.. I went to NYC a while back and one place name brand ciggs were 6.00 a pack.. I tell you thats one thing I will never regret giving up.. though I have been known to have a smoke after a few beers but I dont think I will ever start again..
Darth 09-27-2002, 07:23 PM No.
mind21_98 09-27-2002, 07:34 PM Hmm. No, but aren't there too many options for the poll? :D
imitech 09-27-2002, 07:57 PM Nope… never touch the stuff it will kill you one day :)
PencWeb 09-27-2002, 08:25 PM It's basically just killing yourself, but at a slow rate :-p Smoking is ****ing stupid, I hate it, and it smells like **** :D
Jim_UK 09-27-2002, 08:35 PM Reminds me of the Bill Hicks comment that goes something like:
I'd quit smoking if I felt I wasn't gonna become like one of those non-smokers
:D
imitech 09-27-2002, 08:38 PM I can’t stand being around people when they’re smoking… I just end up coughing my guts out and the smell is vile :)
jeellison 09-27-2002, 08:40 PM Not anymore. I gave up last New Year.
Rewdog 09-27-2002, 08:41 PM Wow, I'm surprised at the poll results. They did a poll at our local high school, and over 80% of the students had had a cigarrette in the past 2 weeks.

Me too.. I think it has a big deal to do with the fact alot of kids in school smoke to look cool or whatever reason where I think once you get older (in your 20's) alot of people start to realize how bad it is for you and how much $$$ it is costing them..
I am really suprised also I figured it would be something more like 60/40
clocker1996 09-27-2002, 08:45 PM Nope. I have never touched cigs, weed, or alcohol :)
I smoked for 9 year and gave up 2 years ago. I will have one from time to time.
As for people saying it will kill you. So will breathing and walking in front of moving vehicles, but lets not cloud the issue with facts. ;)
secludo 09-27-2002, 08:52 PM Smoked from age 12 to age 18, regularly from about 13 to 18 and I quit cold turkey when I found out I was pregnant in March 2001.
Neo3Net 09-27-2002, 09:22 PM Alot of kids in my school smoke....Its getting to the point where I can't walk the halls without being asked for a cig. The teachers couldn't care less either....You see kids with packs on their desks and the teachers really couldn't give a sh*t.
I don't know....I would never smoke, its just so nasty and its a really bad habit to get into.
Thanks
filburt1 09-27-2002, 09:23 PM There are quite a few chicks on campus where they are perfect but ruin it by smoking.
MikeM 09-27-2002, 10:35 PM I've been smoking for close to 20 years.... average about a pack of 25 a day ( thats 8 bucks a day that i could be saving.
I got zyban 2 years ago, but my marriage broke up at the same time and I never started due to stress.
I still havent started (zyban) some day I will quit.... and then I'll get hit by a Bus the next day. :D
dreamrae.com 09-27-2002, 10:36 PM never done any drugs :D
It's the only time I can say to myself, thank god for respiratory problems. If I ever did smoke, I would probably have an athsma attack and die or something. Yeah, so I don't smoke. And I hate people who do. And they've started banning it in places in Boston, thank god.
You can't smoke in public on the Vineyard anymore and you can't in Brookline, wahoo. :)
DayGlo 09-27-2002, 11:43 PM I started smoking when i was young, i smoked for around 10 years but i finally realized that i can control it, it's my mind, i haven't smoked in over 2 years and i'll never do it again.
WebmastersHost 09-28-2002, 12:10 AM I quit cigarettes about four years ago. I do find myself enjoying a minature cigar about once a month though.
TheGAME1264 09-28-2002, 12:13 AM I choose not to smoke, except I don't choose to smoke after sex simply because I couldn't get laid if...well, I just can't get laid.
Thanks for opening up old wounds, man!
:D
interactive 09-28-2002, 12:13 AM i have asthma myself....so personally i think people should take there little crap (the cigg's) and shuve them...well you know...we people with asthma should be able to sue all smokers for health damages dont you think?
AceWeb 09-28-2002, 12:49 AM No, never did before, and never will. Unless someone wants a free throwup machine. Yikes!
I hate when you walk and someone just blowes the smoke in your face!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
interactive 09-28-2002, 01:42 AM lol this is besides the point but yesterday i was walking home from school (10 mile walk) anyways i walked past this dude and he thoguht i was someone he knew i guess anyways he like shakes my hand (i guess yu could call it that its one of them funyn hand shakes) anyways he's like "wasup duuuuude....did you ever find that smoke you were looking for yesterday..."
im like "umm i dont smoke." and he's all "oooooooh i gots the wrong dude sorry dude have a good day DUDE!" off topic i know funny i thought though.
LinuXpert 09-28-2002, 01:45 AM No, thanks.
ServerSonic 09-28-2002, 03:03 AM I personally think smoking is disgusting and have never smoked. I don't think anyone can give a good reason for starting, and I'm certain there is no good reason for continuing.
However if someone wants to smoke then fine, I just ask that they make sure I never know about it (i.e. they don't huff n puff near me).
I'm happy to say where I live it is illegal to smoke in most public places except for entirely seperate and specially ventilated rooms. Needless to say, I steer well clear of those rooms.
Jedito 09-28-2002, 03:04 AM Yes, a lot! like 25-30 cigarrets per day, Gitanes when I can get them or a national brand "Parisiennes" (black tobacco)

Maybe they are all too young to smoke or afraid to admit it cos Mummy might catch them voting yes :stickout
TheGAME1264 09-28-2002, 11:39 AM I don't know about that, anon-e-mouse. At least admitting it on here, they're also relatively anon-e-mouse and likely wouldn't be caught by a parental unit.
In regard to Rewdog's comment: teenagers experiment with different things frequently and a lot of that result may well be teens experimenting. Most of this board is over the age of 18 (at least it would appear as such.) This may explain the difference in results.
shaunewing 09-28-2002, 11:53 AM I don't smoke - never have, never will.
And as for the stupid voting - took 10 tries, each time with that "your session is invalid". Probably due to the fact that every http request I make can come from any of about 6 IP addresses.

interactive 09-28-2002, 12:07 PM you proxied? "operator error" ring a bell? something is only stupid if...
Synthetic 09-28-2002, 12:56 PM Nope, I don't smoke.
Mesum 09-28-2002, 01:35 PM I smoke about 4 packs every week.
peteny 09-28-2002, 03:48 PM I smoke about 2 packs a day, ciggarettes are up to $7.50 a pack here in NYC too :(
Smoking it bad for you and others. My pediatrician theorized that I developed asthsma as a child because my father smoked around me when I was a baby. Mind you I am the oldest of four, and I am the only one with athsma. My mother forced him to smoke outside after I developed respiratory problems.
If you care for loved ones, don't smoke.
I am also pleased to say that Mayor Thomas Menino of Boston has just announced this week a plan for placing a Smoking ban in the city of Boston in public areas. :) YES. I hate smokers who smoke in public places and blow smoke in people's faces. Michael Bloomberg is also planning something similar for New York City.
mind21_98 09-28-2002, 04:44 PM Is drafting resolutions the answer though? Anti-smoking provisions don't target the real problem: too many people smoking cigarettes.
A while ago I heard about a study done after a series of anti-smoking advertising all over California, and the number of adult smokers dropped below 10%. Maybe we should be concentrating on that rather than making more anti-smoking regulations.
Sprynex 09-28-2002, 09:48 PM Yes I smoke..
The thing I can't stand are people who used to smoke and now don't.
They think they are the next savior sent from god to stop everyone from doing it.
Here's a concept: Don't harp on people for making decision you do not agree with.
I smoke, I enjoy it.. it's relaxing.
I am also considerate when I am out (hah, that's like once a week).. If I go out with friends who don't smoke, I won't smoke around them unless we are outside.
If you don't smoke, then that's great.. I think it's really a good thing (not to smoke)
If you used to smoke and quit, congradulations.. I will join you someday.. but until then, please respect our decision to smoke as others may have respected yours.
Ok, end rant.
Hostkookster 09-28-2002, 10:01 PM Never Have never will!
I don't even hang around people who smoke, I can't stand the smell.:smokin:
Mester 09-28-2002, 11:27 PM Hmm... Theres somehting different at my school than most others... There are a group of maybe 50 smokers out of 1100 at the school. Except for the odd hot girl, all smokers are considered skids.
I think thats a good thing tho. I wouldnt start smoking even if i wanted to jsut because it would put me in bad social view :)
IGobyTerry 09-29-2002, 12:22 AM I don't smoke anything... drinking on the other hand... well... that's for a different poll.

Yes I am proxied - but one would think that the voting could handle it.
Squid proxy on my LAN doing transparent proxying which then has my ISP's squid proxy pool setup (as per their instructions) as the parent.
Proxies are compulsary - no way around them.

labzone 09-29-2002, 06:34 AM I don't smoke but I've read that nicotine is more addictive than heroin so I feel for those who have been unable to kick the habit. Remember when the tobacco companies said nicotine wasn't addictive in those hearings? The government is supposedly cracking down on corporate fraud so why aren't these pushers in jail?
markcw 09-29-2002, 01:56 PM I smoked from age 13 to 40. Got up to 3 packs a day.
Then the doctor said you might be starting to deveolp lung cancer.
The next 10 years I have had 1 cigarette and about 40 cigars.
No problem with lungs today.
It was the hardest thing to quit afyer that many years. Good luck to anyone who says I can quit anytime I want.
