View Full Version : Hostrocket signup page
apriljoy 03-30-2001, 02:56 AM For the past two days that I've tried to signup with Hostrocket, I get either it can't locate the page to process my credit card or the whole hostrocket.com site is down.
It's almost as if this is a sign to just stay away. I thought maybe it was that I only had a 40 bit encryption and so I downloaded the 128 bit one this evening and the hostrocket.com site is down.
Phiberop 03-30-2001, 03:02 AM Site is down for me as well... not a good sign :)
apriljoy 03-30-2001, 03:04 AM Phiberop, any suggestions for a host that offers similar features. I need php and cgi support.
It is there. I just went to it and it loaded fine, even after I submitted.
Try it again.
apriljoy 03-30-2001, 03:10 AM Even though it says in big bold letters 128 bit encryption enabled I think they should have it written somewhere that you need to have 128 encryption on your browser in order to process an order.
I've heard so many good things and the normal bad things about hostrocket and that's why I picked them.
Also for some reason the javascript doesn't fully load when using Netscape 6. I thought I was patient enough waiting 5 minutes for it.
I'm moving from phpwebhosting, here's to hoping they give me a clean break and not start charges once again once I leave.

Oops, site works for me now... may have been a problem with my cable.
As far as other hosts go, you may want to do some more looking into Hostrocket if they have caught your eye. I have also heard good things about these as well:
http://www.venturesonline.com
http://www.hostmatters.com
http://www.wizardshosting.com
Look around, don't be afraid to send an email to a potential host inquiring about their services. The speed they answer the email may reflect on how well support times will be.
Regards,
Mike
nonplus 03-30-2001, 01:43 PM Hi,
Another fantastic host for uptime, support, features, flexibility and overall excellence is:
http://www.webhoster.co.uk part of http://www.xcalibre.co.uk
I 100% recommend them!
Andrew.
petesmc 03-30-2001, 02:07 PM Hi,
To all those people having problems trying to order HostRockets services.
Move to a PC, It is Macs that are causing the problems as they have some weird problems with 128 bit encryption.
Has anyone managed with a mac
-Pete
hostrocket 03-31-2001, 01:58 AM Moving to a PC is kinda harsh... If you send in a ticket requesting us to do so we can give you a call and take your order over the phone. OR we could fix our order form, thats on the list of things to do.

Appears my problem is something with my road runner.... again... oh joy!
gnorthey 03-31-2001, 07:12 PM I am currently a customer with Host Matters, and was a customer with HostRocket.
I can say that both have excellent tech support, prices, and features.
As a customer with HostMatters, I am losing some valuable features that I had with HostRocket, such as multiple FTP accounts and a very nice control panel.
As a customer with HostRocket, I found some items to be very annoying, such as the fact that mailing lists never worked and I had to constantly give clients my personal email account so that they could always reach me when the servers went down.
My unserstanding is that this is all working now, and I know that mailing lists work now because they didn't fully delete my account configs when I left and a month later, the mailing list sent me an email reminding me what my password is.
Personally, I have a great dis-taste for the VDI mail servers and a distaste for the Alabanza HTTP server, so maybe when my business has a larger budget, I will go get an HR account for web access and use my HM account for mail and mailing lists.
Really, I would say that it is a matter of opinion as to what features you value most, I know that VDI isn't having too much fun with its servers lately, and I know that HR is working hard to fix it as I have seen some message somewhere addressing the issue.

While some people might prefer the VDI control panel, I have a great distase for it. Almost every other one I have tried is significantly better in terms of performance. Just as an aside, Hosting Matters does offer multiple FTP accounts, if you bother to ask. They just have to be set up manually.
I tried the HR order form on a Mac as well, and it will not load under IE or Netscape with OS 9.1 or OS X. The other day it wasn't working at all for me even on a PC, but it seems to be working now.
hostrocket 04-01-2001, 12:33 AM Hi,
I have tested it on a Mac running OS 8.5 and IE 5.0, which is the only mac I have access to and it ran fine... : (
