The Advertising Forum is not a place where people post offers, and then other members rip those offers to shreds. Some people seem to be a bit ummmm, errrr... *what's the word* lately, and please respect the fact that if *you* posted an offer, you'd hope people who weren't interested would just skip over it.

does the word start with a B?
does the word have 6 letters?
does the word end with a Y?

does it rhyme with itchy? :)

Here is a suggestion for you Chicken:

Just make the advertising section closed to replies. Indeed it would be nice for users to get more information by asking a question but the same feat could be achieved by simply emailing the advertiser if they are interested.

This would solve the problem. I, too, am a bit uncomfortable when there are posts 'making fun' of the advertiser, esp. when they unknowingly use the "U" word. There is no need of that. In fact, it is most unprofessional.

Just MHO.

You could also make an extra catagories restricted for users to post what they want or need and hosts could reply with there offers. Although I'm not sure what that would solve ;)

A good suggestion. However I would like to see it adopted as a last resort. I would prefer to see the forum pre-moderated as a next-to-last resort. Inquisitive exchanges provide me with additional insight to how someone else has set up their business. There were good exchanges in:
http://webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=7536
before the flack began.

I think most of us feel the pressure of peer censorship. It has to be embarrassing to have a "Comments removed by moderator" appear in your post. In the advertising area all posters are not equal. If there is to be criticism then it should be in the free-for-all parts of the forums.

And a bunch of other stuff but I think I will stop at this point.

IMHO and NEWS (Not Especially Well Stated - IOMTU -I obviously made that up - PMMS - Please Make Me Stop)

Pre-moderation slows thing down a bit, realtime is better; plus we're lazy :) (I am anyway). I think what I'll do is create an addition set of rules for the advertising category and the rules will be flashed when a user goes to post a reply or start a new thread. I will also see if I can give thread starters the ability to lock their own threads if they so choose, this will not be default though since most posters are happy for people to reply to their threads.

Ah it's one of those mornings, Caffinine,Taurine,Vodka - lethal mixture.

Just a suggestion, but it might help if the "No advertising" rule from elsewhere applied to non-thread-starters in the Advertising forum.

It seems to me that flames often (not always, but often) start when people begin to point out "my company can do better than that."

But kudos to the moderators for keeping things as civil as they already are -- I don't know if I've ever seen such a large population of posters behave so well.

We prefer to keep our hands off the Ads forum as much as possible, but it looks like it may not be possible for much longer, so we'll consider some alternatives, such as new rules for this forum.

You haven't seen anything yet

(i.e. it has been worse at other times...)

Matt,

Red Bull and Vodka huh? Very tasty beverage that, and makes for a fun night out, but as you're aware now it packs a punch the next morning :) Quite a few punches actually - every few seconds - in time with your heart beat *lol*

As BC said, we reeeeeally try to let members have the Advertsing Forum, and we *can* create additional rules, and the 'lock the thread' suggestion has been posed before, but I'm hoping that we can all avoid more rules, etc., by just bringing some awareness to the issue.

Ohhh, and yessss, bitchy was probably the word, heh!
