How do you rate http://www.34sp.com Steelsun 03-29-2001, 09:37 PM Don't know about their mysql connections, since I have no need or use for that, but I've been hosting one of my sites (www.steel-sun.com) with them for about a month now without problems. I also just this morning changed another site over to them, but dns has not gone through enough of the net yet for me to upload the site. Bang for the buck, it's a great host. Downsides: 1) I'm in the US (Texas), they are in the UK (although their servers are in Texas), so the time differance comes into play for communication (they are 7 hours later). But I entered my order this morning and I had my confirmation and setup notice within an hour. (Previous site I had ordered in the evening US time, and took about 16 hours before I got my info) 2) Bandwidth allowance is fairly low for most commercial sites (400MB for base setup). I don't think I will go over, but for the yearly price being less than two months of what I was paying, I am prepared to see how close I come. Steelsun kunal 03-30-2001, 01:36 AM 50 connections at once?? that is crazy!!! you need to do some serious re-coding.. klisis 03-30-2001, 01:50 AM Hmm I don't know much about this but here it goes. An open mysql connection requires 8 MB of ram.(I heard you can reduce this amount by editing config.) 50 connections at once means it requires 400MB of ram at once. Isn't it using too much resources? Please correct me if I am wrong. Thanks. nonplus 03-30-2001, 12:42 PM Hi, 50 MYSQL Connections!! Are you mad? I am not sure if a) any host would allow that and b) whether it is really nesecary for you to have to many connections. Though, I am prepared to be prooved wrong. Regarding 34sp.com a friend of mine has an account with them. Basically, they are brilliant because they give you what you ask for - which is excellent and it's at a great price. However, bandwidth is low (though I think it's only £2 per GB over, which is brilliant!). MYSQL - They use cobolt servers and so they will definetly NOT be able to handle 50 MYSQL connections. 34sp.com also has a very good connectivity and also offers telnet access with cron jobs which are good. For that price I'd recommend that you go for it - after all, there is 14 days money back offer! If you really, really, really require 50 MYSQL Connections then you could rent your own server..
