How cheap do you want it? I believe the cheapest you're going to find servers that fit in a 1U would be around $900 bucks. Correct me if I'm wrong, please.

i believe if you buy a server you can have it shipped directly to the datacenter of your choice if you colocate in the usa that saves shipping to your house then back to the datacenter ;)

best of luck finding a server.

Dell is currently running a sale on their PowerEdge 500SC servers through the small business section of their website. You can get a Celeron with 128b MB ram and dual 40 GB hard drives for around $300.00 after rebates. (If you work it right you could get the price down to about $200.00 if you use Dell coupons). Pretty cheap for a low end server.

Maybe I'm completely paranoid... But wouldn't this put at you a risk of being ripped off, since either party could lie and claim that the other one has it... "No, the data center has it! We shipped it out last week." "What? We never got the server!"

That said... Not sure of the likelihood, and I must confess that I've never done anything of this sort, so this is just a "what if" sorta scenario... :)

no <sarcasm> because they just came out with this new technology called a tracking number so when you get that you can track it so it dont lie it gets scanned and when it gets dropped off the datacenter can't lie you have proof it was signed for :stickout </sarcasm>

hehe doubt you would get ripped off. and sry just had to make that sarcastik :)

You can also buy a server from some data centers. Won't need to be delivered.

Isn't the PowerEdge 500SC a tower system? Doesn't that limit your options w/r/t co-location?

The PowerEdge Server I mentioned is a mid-tower server. As for problems with colocating a mid-tower I see that there are several companies which are around this board which colocate towers--I think you just have to ask.
