We decided to lease a dedicated server from a hosting company, we find a good and cheep one http://www.cobaltrack.com what do you think about it? Is it an effecient company, which has a good reputation in the hosting world?
Can any body tell me any information about it?

cbaker17 03-29-2001, 09:38 AM NO! :) THey have a terrible history...
allan 03-29-2001, 11:32 AM You can find hosts on this board that will give you a much better level of service than CobaltRacks for the same, or better, prices.
You might want to look at:

Not an attempt to make a host look bad(worse?), but they have to be close to being the Forrest Gump of web hosting.
joubarani 03-30-2001, 05:43 AM what about Version12?
Phiberop 03-30-2001, 12:15 PM I have heard good things about Version12.

rmattioli 03-30-2001, 02:44 PM Hi,
I have been a Cobalt Racks customer for a short time (less than 2 months) and I can say they are not so awful.
Just my 2 cents.
c0bra 03-30-2001, 03:40 PM Nightmare, nightmare, nightmare.. search the official cobalt list archives for terrible experiences detailed by ex-cobaltrack customers.
4webspace are doing OK. Their connectivity seems more than a little iffy of late though.
rmattioli 03-30-2001, 04:28 PM I am not here to defend Cobalt Racks over any reasonable limit, nor am I connected in any way to them (apart from being one of their customers).
I can believe they had lots of unhappy customers, in the past (or in the recent past) but who can say they are still offering a poor service?
As I said, I have been a Cobalt Racks customer for less than 2 months and well, their service is not state of the art but I saw worse things in my life. Their tech support is sometimes slow but so far I always found someone to talk to.

eddy2099 05-06-2001, 07:59 PM Well, I have been with Cobaltracks since Nov 2000 and they seems to be alright. Not the fastest server around and well, they seem to be a pro-active company to me.
I started with a Raq 3 with 64mb paying $99/mth. They updated the system and a couple of months back, I got 128mb for the same price and then they up it to 160mb. They are now offering to upgrade my harddisk from 8.4gb to 15gb for no extra charge. I am not sure how many other companies are like that.
I know that support response time seems to be unstable but most of the time, they reply.
I guess there are some victims around and I am glad I am not one of them. All my sites are hosted on the Raq 3 now and now thinking of getting a Raq 4i from them soon.
WTFHosting 05-06-2001, 11:34 PM Had a server with CobaltRack several months ago. CONSTANT network connectivity issues, it was nearly impossible to get anyone on the phone, and if you did they wern't helpful. I lost a lot of clients (oh, about half my client base) due to their poor uptime and network performance. If you value your company at all, I strongly urge you NOT to get a server with this company.
Other people have had good luck with 4webspace / rackshack although I can't make any comments about either. One thing to keep in mind, you do get what you pay for. So don't expect excellent tech support or 100% uptime. I can recommend Host2Own.com who is a little more expensive, but it is well worth it. They focus on tech support (although most advanced issues are over their scope, call cobalt directly for those) and their network has had good uptime. (recently it's been 100%)
