John,
I was *just* about to suggest the same thing... :) I was also just looking for an email I got from them to a request I made on DPI for their products... It's gone *sob* but from memory, it's 200 DPI for t-shirts, and 400 DPI for coffee cups and mouse pads. I haven't looked their lately but it used to be the only colors available were white and grey as they had issues with finding a good ink to show up on black (anyone who's seen my picture will understand why I was asking about black *lol*)
The shirts, mousepads, and coffee cups could be sold at cost I suppose, but it might finally settle that whole "How can we help pay for WHT" thing a lot of people ask about. Even at $1 above cost, if every member of this board bought a t-shirt, cup and pad, that would be close to $7000(US) Not bad huh?
I suppose the only problem is WHT has no logo.... :)

TheComputerGuy 03-28-2001, 11:05 PM Logo contest, person gets 3 free tshirts!!!!
akashik 03-28-2001, 11:42 PM The nod from those above and I'm in on it.... Never designed anything I can wear. It'll be fun :)
Greg Moore
Actually we already have a logo designed for WHT, but Matt's just been too lazy to reveal it ;)
Chicken 03-29-2001, 12:06 AM I like the sound of a contest... anything that involves creativity, etc. People on the boards have amazed me with their talents! I say make it challengin (like require the design to be made with MS Paint???) :)
akashik 03-29-2001, 12:13 AM *lol*
you know how long ago, and fast I uninstalled MS Paint??
I've have to pull out my Win disk to play with that idea :)

HAH!! Bunch of Windows pansies. I say...you want a challenge, design it in xv. Better yet, if you want to prove what a real Geek you are, design it in vi :D.
I love me some ASCII!
akashik 03-29-2001, 02:26 AM bah..
I like the pretty things... it's photoshop or it's amateur *grin*
- though I have to say The Gimp is starting to look pretty good.. I tried it a year ago and watched it crash every 5 minutes.. they seem to be making it better slowly. I had Linux running in a partition next to windows for a while but could only ever get it up to about 8 bit color... not quite what I need :)

I'll order a couple if I get to see Matt's Logo first! In fact I'll get a whole bunch of them if Greg lets me borrow the money. (I'll gladly pay you back Wednesday).

Boksoft 03-29-2001, 12:04 PM Hey,
We'll do some sponsoring for the T-Shirts!
Arnoud
webfors 03-29-2001, 01:16 PM Oh yeah!!! Gimme some t-shirts. You could sell space on the shirts for sponsor logos!

But how would you measure the click-through rate?
:)
akashik 03-29-2001, 03:54 PM That's easy enough...
You put a tiny microphone in the shirt, and the words 'Poke here for more' You then measure how often the shirt wearer says, "Ouch"
:)

webfors 03-29-2001, 04:04 PM I'm in!! I'll sponsor the T-shirt drive!! Who's going to organize it.
I just won a t-shirt from sitepoint forums last week. Pretty cool. Still waiting for it to arrive though :(
TheComputerGuy 03-29-2001, 05:18 PM I will take the liberty to do the shirts, they are only 20.99 per sleeve, and another 44.95 for the body of the shirt.
or you can get it all for only 3 easy payments of 999.99
Nicholas Brown 03-29-2001, 05:26 PM We could have x amount of ad banners on the back. Each one being 468x60.
You'd get a few ads on the xxxxxl sizes :D

I installed gimp for the first time 1 yr back. It ran well fot abt a month and one day it crashed and started replicated a error message dialog box that said "Bad things will happen soon" replicating some 200 times.
I pressed ctrl+alt+bksp and terminated the X server.
Boy, was I scared. The message kept haunting me and I drove my bike extra careful on the road for the next one week.
Free T shirts? Count me in.
Wing.

I saw the same error myself once.. I was pretty disconcerting. Not due to any portential insight on the part of the program though *lol* It's just such an odd error message after being so use to the dry unintelligable MS ones I'm so use to ...
back to topic
Em, are we ever going to see this mystery logo for WHT? You know everyone's just dying to see it now it was brought up...

Phiberop 03-30-2001, 06:51 PM I want a tshirt as well :)
I heard a rumor that Chicken was gonna pick up the tab for us all. :)
projo 03-30-2001, 07:59 PM I suggest the t-shirts be printed on the back, that is if we want anyone to ever read them.

Chicken 03-31-2001, 01:20 AM Suuuuure sure, ya'll just tell me where to send 'em and I'll open up the wallet. Lemme see, I'm willing to pay the exact same percentage that I own of this site.
ValuableHost 03-31-2001, 01:20 AM Hey,
How about:
TO qualify for a "free" t-shirt you must first reach 5000 posts :)
hehe...
akashik 03-31-2001, 01:27 AM Yeah that's just what's needed *shudder* a few hundred people posting like etLux did - page after page
So did anyone adminy or moddy check out cafepress, or any other options for doing this on the cheap?
Greg Moore
If I had a t-shirt the traffic would go up..... I hang out at too many 'geek' type places.....

Actually I knew of iPrint and Cafepress long ago but Cafepress was down when I checked them out yesterday. I'm willing to consider it, or I can do it at my University's print shop (I can negotiate pretty decent deals), but in this case I'd be charging a few dollars a shirt just to cover the costs (I have little intention of profiting - well that's what I'm saying now anyway :D). And I'll probably be asking for the money through PayPal or something...
I'll have a chat with Matt later and see what we can come up with.
P.S. As a matter of fact, one of our regular forum members (hint : 'A WHT addict') won a competition over at SitePoint to produce a WHT graphic. I'll leave it to Matt to divulge a URL if it's on a site anywhere :D
baileysemt123 03-31-2001, 04:27 AM I would pay a reasonable price for a t-shirt. :) Gladly. I LOVE WHT!!!!!
:D Bailey

I would buy a shirt! How about a discount based on the number of posts the purchasing member has?
> 100
> 500
> 1000
etc.
But that would kind of leave members who posted just a couple of questions/answers high and dry! On the other hand, I'll be at 100 posts soon! ;)
Regards,
Michael
Vortech 04-06-2001, 01:50 PM I'll sponsor the T-shirt drive!!! I think its a good idea in away plus as long as they are cool i would buy one or more... ;)
baileysemt123 04-06-2001, 02:01 PM me too! me too! Please can I get a shirt? :)
Vortech 04-06-2001, 02:13 PM Admins: If you can't find the T-Shirts cheap we have a place close to use that can do them cheap i can get a price if you have a logo for front & back and get you a great price on them.
E-Mail me at info@vortechhosting.com with the logos and i can get you a price the same day.
Hey, I would buy a WHT T-Shirt. Just post a message at the top of the main page if you ever do and ill buy a few.
Hey, maybe if you could purchase like 1,000 of them, you could get them at a really good price, then sell them and make alittle profit off of them. I know of a place that can get you a screen-print shirt for about $9.99/shirt if you first purchase about 1,000.
Jim

Boksoft 04-06-2001, 04:55 PM I just looked at http://www.fishead.net/ and they can provide two color printed tshirts for only $3.24 each (144pcs min)
That's cheap :)
Certainly worth considering - thanks gentlemen. I'll get Matt to e-mail some of you if he decides to go ahead with it.
Unfortunately my local Uni t-shirt shop has shut down so I can't do it there :(
TheComputerGuy 04-06-2001, 10:53 PM I hope Matt acts quickly, I want to wear one to school, be the talk of the town.
I'd wear one to school.... I already wear my Corel Linux, and Rackspace.com shirts.....
Matt Lightner 04-07-2001, 02:45 AM I'd wear one to the gym to workout. A WHT shirt would turn any old schmoe into a chick magnet........
Wait a minute *scratches head* :D
Matt

TheComputerGuy 04-07-2001, 09:30 AM Will the chick magnet cost extra?

Where did you get a Rackspace.com t-shirt? I would take one of those when I work out...
Jim
TheWingThing 04-07-2001, 11:11 AM Well, FYI, there is an industrial town named Tiruppur in the state of Tamil Nadu, India (300 miles from where I live now).
The place is popular for knitwear, T shirts, etc. They make T shirts for many multinational companies and also, they are mainly export based, to US and Europe and also make OEM for some US and Europe T shirt companies. You can try some of the search engines and come up with more than a 100 companies packed in this one town.
This place is the largest T shirt maker in India, and is a global leader.
And believe me, you can get T shirts for 2 to 3 USD, dunno how shipping will add to it.
You may also try at http://www.tiruppur.com
We once printed T shirts (160 of them) for our college trip and one of those ppl there (my frien'd relative) got us those T shirts for free. But they were of gr8 quality.
You might try there too. My 2 cents.
Wing.

I don't think you need the chick magnet my friend. You seem to have enough women problems as it is. If you were wearing a WHT shirt, it would no doubt be ten times worse. :D
Best Regards,
Matt Lightner
mlightner@site5.com
Jim,
I won the rackspace.com t-shirt....
TheComputerGuy 04-07-2001, 01:56 PM Well maybe have a chick maget filter...like caller ID, and call block.
A chick magnet would be cool.....
baileysemt123 04-07-2001, 09:13 PM *eyes color inkjet printer curiously*
Of course, if we can't get an official shirt from the board... We could find a particularly talented person on the board I am sure, to design a logo, in 600 dpi or so... which we could all download and print at home... onto that iron-on stuff and make our own shirts.
Not the Finest option perhaps (that iron-on stuff can be tempestuous) but would be way better than no shirt at all!!!!!!!
:D Bailey
IntraHost 04-10-2001, 06:41 PM Got it a long time ago... its fricken HUGE. I'm a little guy so I gave it to my brother, haha.
Yeah, the rackspace shirt is huge.... but, I usually wear X Large shirts anyway....
Fiber 04-11-2001, 03:14 PM I wouldn't mind a Site5 or Ventures Online T-Shirt.

Now that's no a bad idea. For our next design, we're going to have a bunch of models dress up with Site5 t-shirts and hold random computer accessories (ala Burlee.com). It's going to be really groovy. :D
Seriously though, I think a Site5 t-shirt would be pretty cool. I'd certainly wear one. I'm sure Rod would come up with a killer design for them. :D
