There has been a few comment about our location so I wanted to take this chance to clear things up and put Uruguay on the map.
We moved Ultma Hosts to Uruguay after a brief period in the Caribbean. We found out about Uruguay via the great reports from other expats. Initially we just needed a place to live close to the USA time zone as this is where the bulk of our clients were (I say were as now the bulk are in Australia :)).
Uruguay is the perfect choice for people who work online because:
Great climate
Very safe
No Tax (Yes no Tax)
Great Internet services (we have an unlimited 3G plan for $25 per month and its fast)
Lots of Expats live here
Highly educated population
Great Beaches
Very friendly people (a lot speak English)
It's very cheap if you earn foreign income (for example $1000 per month could cover ALL expenses including rent, food, internet and entertainment.)
Plus did I mention it is tax free?
Food is great - Uruguay is an agriculturally based country and it shows.
Cheap property - $30K beach houses, $60K city apartments.
It's 3 hours ahead of New York which give us plenty of time to set things right in the morning.
1st World Infrastructure.
Easy to gain residency / 2nd passport
No visa required for 3-6 months stay.
Uruguay has one of the highest educations standard in the world. The computer engineers are typically taught use Microsoft products. So its a good place to employ Windows Technicians - which we are also doing.
Well there are a lot of other reasons to live here but you get the idea.
We still have a base and business in Melbourne, Australia and will be heading back this year to Brisbane to setup in a new Data Center there. Demand is booming in Australia.
Ultima Hosts follows the Perpetual Tourist philosophy.
If you have any questions about visiting Uruguay please let me know.

Yes please visit. Today was sunny and about 25 degrees with a sea breeze. From my apartment we can walk to the feria (open market), Gym, rambla (blvd) and lots of restaurants.
Today we sat outside at a local restaurant and ate Ravioles de pasta and had some Chardonny. Followed up by pancake manzana. There was a USA couple at the next table we had a chat to. The bill came to about $30 for 2 including wine!

It seems you are having great fun out there. Great to hear. And boy.. just $30 for 2 including wine? You got a reason to stay there. :agree:

Damn, you're putting ideas in my head. Coming from the UK (though I love it) any place with sun and cheap wining/dining seems like a wonderland - as it's usually only a once a year occasion (holiday). Glad to hear you're living the 'dream'.

Sure worth a thought if you are working online. Other destinations I've checked out for extended periods:
Dominican Republic - bit too poor and dirty
Ecuador - a real surprise with a perfect climate up the Andes. Super cheap.
Sunshine Coast, Australia - probably the best place in the world
Ireland - terrible weather even in summer
Panama - great shopping
Scotland - nice as I have family there
Though UY will probably be our final destination there are still a few other countries I would like to visit and work in:
British Virgin Islands
Switzerland
Singapore
Bahamas
