Now that priyadi is going to make it his/her mission to set me "free", I've decided to set up my first Linux/Apache box in my house. I'm downloading RedHat 7.3 as I write.

What else do I need? Apache 2.0? PHP? MySQL?

Sock it to me. Where do I go? What version do I get?

Hey, don't take it too personally. I'm not on a mission or anything. If you ask me what color the sky is, then I will answer honestly, 'blue'. Same goes to your other question. :)

As for the above question, the answer would be "no, you don't need to download them, they are already bundled with your redhat discs".

How is it gonna set you free?

The shackles of Windows licensing are off. You have done RMS (Richard Stallman, the founder of the Open Source movement) good. :D

The shackles of Windows? Since when are you forced to use Windows? It's so funny how people want to get away from Windows but then they get Redhat and install KDE or GNOME.

It was meant as a joke. Anyways, that's so true. It's become almost exactly like Windows but without the software support.

You are going to be killed by Richard Stallman if he read that. :D

(I KNOW you were joking, but this made me start thinking...)

You know, I think it's kind of wierd.

An auto-mechanic who chooses not to go out back, dig for ore, smelt it down, purify it, and make his own nuts and bolts, cast his own engine parts, etc...is considered perfectly normal

But anyone who doesnt do same same with their computer (IE Linux, BSD, etc) is a lot of times looked down on by some ("hard core" Linux, etc groupies)

Makes you wonder about the thinking processes of the human race...

Computer code is easier to make than nuts and bolts. So easy in fact, it's much more of a pain just to copy what someone else has made. :D
