View Full Version : Newbie gathering info for starting a reseller business
Boscorelli 02-23-2009, 09:14 PM Hello, this is my first post here on WHT, and such as my post title suggests, i'm currently gathering all the information i can get before i'm gonna start my own small hosting company business.
I need to to make a checklist with what i need to have, to purchase and to do at the beggining.
First of all, i already found where i'm gonna get my reseller account from, its my current hosting company here in Europe wich offered me top quality services, and thats why i'm gonna get my reseller account from them.
I will choose the cheapest plan start with, everything is fine but there is only one disadvantage, the cheapest plan doesnt include an free billing script ( clientexec ) and i guess i have to purchase one right ?
But i will receive an free Enom reseller account.
I already created my website, i know HTML good and some PHP, and i guess i have to purchase an script for automating account creation that merges with the billing script and with my Enom reseller account right ? Like WHMCS ? Are there others scripts like WHMCS ?
So what the Billing System Does
What the Payment Gateway Does
Can someone explain me please ?
Thank You very much and sorry for my bad english

Hey Boscorelli! Welcome to WHT! :)
I need to to make a checklist with what i need to have, to purchase and to do at the beggining.
Good for you, doing your homework up front. :)
First of all, i already found where i'm gonna get my reseller account from, its my current hosting company here in Europe wich offered me top quality services, and thats why i'm gonna get my reseller account from them.
Fantastic! Cross that off of your list. :) Selecting a hosting provider is usually the most difficult decision that you'll have to make starting out.
I will choose the cheapest plan start with, everything is fine but there is only one disadvantage, the cheapest plan doesnt include an free billing script ( clientexec ) and i guess i have to purchase one right ? But i will receive an free Enom reseller account.
Have you asked your provider if you can add a billing system to your account? They may be willing to provide you with one for a nominal fee. If you are interested in ClientExec, check out http://www.licensepal.com/. LicensePal can provide you with ClientExec and a few other software titles at a reduced rate. In fact, you might even be able to pick up a eNom account from ClientExec. :) It's worth asking the folks at LicensePal.
So what the Billing System Does
ClientExec, WHMCS, and the like are examples of billing systems. They make your job easier, by keeping track of your clients as well as invoices, payments, etc. There are a few other programs specifically designed for our industry. You can find details in the WHT Wiki:

What the Payment Gateway Does
The Payment Gateway will quickly become your favorite part, as it collects money on your behalf. :stickout: PayPal, Google Checkout, 2Checkout, & MoneyBookers are a few examples of payment processors that I'd recommend checking out.
I hope this helps! :agree:
Boscorelli 02-23-2009, 09:57 PM Wow, thank you very much for the details and for that website LicensePal.
I now understand what each system is, before i read your reply i was in the DEMO areas of both ClientExec and WHMCS, and for me the WHMCS system seems to be the perfect one, i totally like the interface and all the explained fields there, and also the availability to translate it in my language is a key feature. The ClientExec seems very complicated and by my opninion has fewer options that WHMCS, but thats just me.
I think i will choose WHMCS to start with, and if later i need more features i can switch to another system right ?
I'm now reviewing some payment gateways, due to the different fees that each one has on Europe purchases.
Thank You very much and sorry for my bad english, i will happily return here if i have more questions, very nice forum and peoples, never seen such community.
Have a nice day

Just get paypal as you are just starting out.You can check if they service EU markets.
WHMCS has served us well, you can check out the offer section forums, some plans will give WHMCS for free.
Good Luck and welcome to WHT :-)
