View Full Version : Where are you applying to college?
mind21_98 09-21-2002, 07:21 PM For those who are seniors this year, where's everyone going to apply to? What major(s) have you decided on, if you decided on one already?
I'm just curious because I'm being forced to work on applications now when I still have a month or so before I have to get serious. I mean, the earliest application date is November 1, and that's only because of MIT's Early Action program. The rest don't have to get to their respective destinations until December 1 or so. :(
IGobyTerry 09-21-2002, 07:21 PM I'll be applying for UCLA next year. I swear it's not for the partying that goes on there... really I swear.
Oh and I'll prolly apply for Ohio State University, Kent State (Also in Ohio), the pittsburgh institute of arts. Oh and maybe yale... haha.
mind21_98 09-22-2002, 12:36 AM I'm going to apply to UC (Berkeley, San Diego, Riverside), MIT, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Univ. of Washington. Funny thing is I keep getting mail from little colleges I've never heard of. :D
AntiSpamHosts 09-22-2002, 12:45 AM Did you know that the #1 partying campus in the U.S. is Indiana State University?
mind21_98 09-22-2002, 12:49 AM Hmm. I didn't know that. :D College is supposed to be for learning though. :(
AntiSpamHosts 09-22-2002, 01:08 AM Well, it seems kinda odd...I would think party college would be Southern California or else..>Although UCSB (Santa Barbara) is one insane place...I once counted 19 people passed out on the street with liqour by them

Are you grades that good? Do you have all the requirements?

Just doing MIT for the heck of it (who knows?) but yeah, I have decent grades and I met the requirements. :D

I only needed a C+ in english to get into my college.
secludo 09-22-2002, 01:55 AM I graduated two years ago -- have to go to a JC for a little while to get some required units that I didn't get in High School in order to attend a University, but do not plan on going for a few years. If it happens, I'll either be attending CSUS - California State University of Sacramento - because it's nearby, or if we move to Washington, which might happen anytime due to work, I am not sure what will happen. I guess that depends on where we live up there (definitely North West).
I had dreams of going to UC Berkeley when I was younger, as my best friend's brother did and I sort of looked up to him. My dad even had the money in stocks to send me... damnit! I do have the grades/GPA for it, but there are a few units I'd need to get in because I'm a retard and didn't want to deal with those classes when I was in HS :stickout Damn Foreign Language! All I wanted to learn was German and they didn't offer it

You're probably referring to the school recently named the "number 1 party school" in the country by the Princeton Review (http://www.princetonreview.com/college/research/rankings/rankingTeaser.asp?CategoryID=4&TopicID=26). But that was Indiana University in Bloomington, not the much smaller (and much more boring) Indiana State University in Terre Haute.
By the way, the Princeton Review also has ranked the MBA program at Indiana University's Kelley School of Business as among the nation's best, and number one in teaching marketing skills.
The Princeton Review, seriously, is worth checking out for anyone trying to choose a US college or university (the information on the site is pretty basic, though. They really want you to buy their publications).

Larry Bird might disagree that Indiana State is more boring than IU.

I barely got through 3 years of Spanish. The only time I liked it was when I was taking Spanish 1. Unless you use it a lot, you forget it very quickly. :( Also, what's the use (unless you live in the Southwest)? :D
IGobyTerry 09-22-2002, 12:09 PM Yes, I do quite bad in Spanish. I get like B, C's in it, but that's a struggle. Especially with the current teacher I have, she moves so fast. We learn something new on monday, and have a test on Wednesday. Then we learn something new on Thursday and have a test on Tuesday. Thank god she doesn't give tests on Monday, I'd die.
mind21_98 09-22-2002, 12:28 PM I had the same Spanish teacher last year and the year before. She graded on this weird GPA system and insisted on speaking Spanish while class was in session. Thank God I'm out now. :D
kunal 09-22-2002, 12:38 PM I just started my quarter at RIT.. and i pretty much like it.. I am doing the MIS course... get the best of 2 worlds in one course... cool eh? ;)
kunal
mind21_98 09-22-2002, 12:51 PM RIT? Where's that? :)
kunal 09-22-2002, 01:08 PM Rochester Institute Of technology.. Its ranked #2 for computer engineering for schools that dont have phd programs.. which is pretty darn cool ;)
AntiSpamHosts 09-22-2002, 01:09 PM Spanish sucks. Russian is better to learn, especially when your teacher knows like 30 words in English.

That's why I didn't want to take it -- I'd never use it and I'd forget. I have no interest in learning Spanish, although I do live in California (Northern) and we have a good number of Spanish-speakers, I'm still not interested. I did have good reason for learning German, though. I had an online friend who lived in Frankfurt; after speaking to her for a few months I became interested in it and wanted to learn, but it was not offered, so I didn't take any foreign language.

I didn't know there were any high schools in the US which taught Russian. Then again, we used to teach Latin for a long time until it fell out of favor. :D
Archbob 09-22-2002, 07:34 PM Last year I applied to UIUC, Umich, Standford, UMR, and Perdue .
I got accepted into all of them except Stanford(Bastards) and now I am at UIUC, its great.

Congrats! Name doesn't mean everything though. I don't quite understand why people have tunnel vision (they just apply to the Ivy Leagues and nowhere else) when it comes to this.

Well, I really can't complain, it was my own fault -- I went to a special school :D Independent Study, nothing good was offered. There's only a few hundred students (less than 300) that were going and only a few out of those hundred would have taken any other languages, it wasn't really worth it to higher someone who spoke anything besides French or Spanish, which were the two languages offered. My Freshman year, my teacher was German and she spoke it (duh), but retired the following year.
