I recently bought a domain from someone.
I made the payment, got the details, looked around...
Register.com (the domain's registrar) had put a note on the account saying it was part of a bundle, and could not be transferred.
Discourse with Register.com support revealed I would have to pay $35 + any fees incurred from the new registrar to transfer.
Should I have gotten my money back?

Hmm, what were you planning to do with the domain name anyway? Will the short or long-term plan possibly outweigh the short-term inconvenience?
Some things to consider. Besides, only you can really answer your own question. :)

You should never buy a domain from someone that isn't transferring that domain to you. You never know what type of situation you just bought yourself into with the domain company that holds the domain.

As I have already said many times before transfer is difficult procedure and can have many problems! Try the best not to deal with domain transfers at all!

The question isn't in the sense of Would this domain have been worth the extra $35.
But, rather I wanted a refund, because of this extra $35. Was I entitled to it?
The terms did not go beyond transfer of ownership, information, rights, control, etc... for $XXX.

This is good advice... I will try to apply it in the future.

So, you pass on an amazing deal on a domain,
Because you didn't like the registrar and would have to transfer?

There are also many regulations which should be met during the domain transfer procedure! It is important to know all of them before to begin this process! Just remember that you are taking a risk to lose a domain when transferring it between registrars!

If you believe you do even if the other party doesn't agree, then you pretty much answered your own question. But...what will you do if the seller refuses to refund you?
OTOH, if you do intend to make money off that domain name somehow tenfold or more, then paying the $35 plus any other fees to make it happen might be an arguably minor price to pay. Of course, only you can decide that.

So you did receive the refund? I was a little bit confused. Did the domain drop, and did you then register it elsewhere?
