I'm looking for recommendations on HTML editors. I'm currently using CoffeeCup 2008. Please tell me WHY you prefer your recommended editor. Thanks!

I'm also a strong believer in a programmer's ability to "Know" the code functions, not have something write it for them. Anyone can click from a drop-down menu... My faveourite function of this application is its ability to connect via FTP to servers, giving the impression you are actually working on the file on the server itself. As soon as the user hits cntrl+s or save, it uploads your file directly to the server so you can review it with a browser refresh. Saving alot of hassle with uploading later... Also comes with the ability to highlight code...etc Nifty tool I've come to love. Dan protecweb 02-20-2009, 08:51 PM + 1 for editplus here. Used it for years and it never fails for all types of code editing. But if you need a wysiwyg then i guess dreameweaver is still a major player. ChaoticHosting 02-21-2009, 01:55 AM Dreamweaver is dramatically behind on the times. After using Dreamweaver CS4 for the past few weeks, I'm now going back to Microsoft Expression Web 2. It is a really useful piece of software and I recommend it to anyone. As for HTML editors, I normally just use Notepad++, but after looking at editplus, I may just have changed! UsefulPC 02-21-2009, 02:31 AM Hi damdug, As stated here EditPlus is excellent however if you're currently using Coffeecup then something like Dreamweaver or Expression Web may be more suited to your needs. hikarunogo10 02-21-2009, 10:19 AM both notepad++ and editplus are good. I used notepad+ at work and editplus for home projects. They will do the work. webenthusiast 02-21-2009, 10:34 AM I've tried Dreamweaver and Microsoft Expression Web 2. I found I like Expression Web far more. It just seemed to make more sense; I liked it so much I bought the whole suite :agree: Laci 02-21-2009, 07:25 PM I'm looking for recommendations on HTML editors. I'm currently using CoffeeCup 2008. Please tell me WHY you prefer your recommended editor. Thanks! If your strictly looking for HTML , I like 3 programs HTML Beauty - Free, its a little old but does what you need it to do . It was actually written by a kid who has now grown up and moved on to other things. I like it for the right click tag edit abilities , snippets etc etc * one thing I don't like is no word wrap * you can find it at snapfiles.com AceHTML Pro 6 - not free, Again a little old but works fairly well , It has everything that the program above has plus word wrap... I use it when I don't feel like scrolling through a bunch of code. Kompozer - Free, is a decent WYSIWYG editor that can open regular HTML files , opposed to some programs that will only open ones they have generated. I started out long time ago with, Homesite waaaaaaay back when it was free, then onto Coffee Cup and last I looked they ( CC 2007 I think ) still had not mastered ,click on the tag editing. I check out each new release in the hope that they have added it... so far not yet . Which is odd even some really low budget programs have that . jerett 02-21-2009, 08:20 PM Are you currently on a PC or MAC? For MAC I suggest "Coda (http://www.panic.com/)" or a mix with FTP Client "Transmit (http://www.panic.com/)" and Editor "Smultron (http://tuppis.com/smultron/)" For a PC it has been awhile but "Dreamweaver (http://www.adobe.com)" is one but I always preferred "UltraEdit (http://www.ultraedit.com/)". Good luck with what you find. FrankLaszlo 02-21-2009, 08:37 PM Dreamweaver is dramatically behind on the times. Can you elaborate on this? Having not used the MS product, i wouldn't know. But as far as I know, DW is capable of producing fairly good code. At least compared to what it use to be. zoobie 02-22-2009, 04:23 AM seems to me when I first started with my brother's version of DW, if you goofed typing a sentence and backed up, DW would close the font tag then open another one DW comes loaded with a bunch of java and other scripts that may or may not be useful your best bet is to try out the free demos and see what suits you CP-Steve 02-22-2009, 04:25 AM I like chami html kit been using it for years now |
