View Full Version : What games should a GSP offer?
PruHosting 02-20-2009, 07:57 AM Hello guys/girls,
I'm just wondering what games a GSP should offer, like COD:WaW, CoD4, CS Source etc.
Suggestions? Would be pretty curious for this.
gavo2o 02-20-2009, 08:13 AM Left For Dead seems to be a popular game theese days so that sounds like a good game to offer to clients.
I am sorry that I have not been much help but I have not had much time for online games lately.
coduk 02-20-2009, 08:28 AM Thats pretty much all there is, CS 1.6/Source, Left 4 Dead, COD 4/5, Team Fortress have been the most popular games for the past few weeks.
Offer ventrilo and teamspeak servers for free, or at discounted prices if bought with a gameserver. Or have it the other way round, offer Gameservers for free/cheaper if bought with vent/ts.
PruHosting 02-20-2009, 10:37 AM Thanks for the input guys, I'm working on installing basic installs on those games right now.
Thanks for the input, if anyone else has input, I'd love to hear it.

rob-putthosting 02-20-2009, 12:17 PM All of the Steam Servers, definitely Call of Duty. I expect Garrys Mod is a great one to serve up because not many people are offering GMOD servers (in relativity to the others). Also remember voice servers and IRC etc... Many clans like to order that, maybe a deal for ordering all of it together or whatever. Think thats already been mentioned before though.

Like another user said, this is an excellent list. And, for you as a provider, the Steam games are cheap (free), so that means better profit for you. Also, most of the steam games don't require quite as much server power as some of the other games.
Creed3020 02-20-2009, 05:09 PM BF2 and BF2142 have publicly available dedicated server files, no need to buy the game. The servers just won't be Ranked, and EA does not give out Ranked Provider status easily.
Defcon|Rich 03-10-2009, 12:34 AM Honestly, This thread is worthless. You should offer the games you know how to host. Nobody here can tell you what your qualified to support as a game server hoster. If your asking what games you should host so you can make a quick buck then I suppose your question is valid but if you want to earn a living you have your priorities backwards.
Too many hosters get ahead of themselves and start selling products they simply cannot support. This will damage your reputation very fast and should be avoid. As a general rule you should know the product better then your smartest customer does because that's what your being paid for. You'll find that out real quick offering games you don't have intimate knowledge of.
Hope this helps.

Since your question is obviously very vague.
I will answer you with , everything and anything providing that it can bee supported with updates from the Game Publishing Industry.
solor403 05-04-2009, 04:48 PM There are some good points.
You want to make sure your hosting the popular games on the market, these may not necessarily be the ones you enjoy personally. You want to appeal to a large audience not a small audience and your own personal interests.
The most popular games are CS, CSS, L4D, DOD, DOD:S, TF2. HL2 DM COD2, COD4, COD: WAW
I would recommend getting familiar with alot of the popular HLDS/SRCDS mods (most of the popular ones have been listed).
Now the other side of this.. What Rich said is right. If you know nothing about hosting these yourself, your likely not going to do well. So make sure that your not hosting games you know nothing of. If you don't know HLDS/SRCDS games, then I would recommend finding someone that can help teach you this, and help you with the support side.
There is nothing worse for a client then going to a company who can't support your game that you rented from them.
Apollo8757 05-30-2009, 04:26 PM At least all of the source games. And maybe some other FPS games like the COD series.
kin0013 05-30-2009, 08:31 PM At least all of the source games. And maybe some other FPS games like the COD series.
Should only offer games you think you will be able to sell. No point selling a game just because you can. Work out your target market and go from there.
romes 05-30-2009, 10:47 PM Selling games that are in demand. The COD series, Team Fortress, etc. would be popular games to sell.

I would also add (from experience) Team Fortress Classic, counter strike condition zero and america's army
cygnus_joe 06-19-2009, 05:05 PM Why has nobody mentioned the Unreal/Unreal Tournament series? Do these games not have the following the others do? They seem popular enough to me.
XFactorServers 06-24-2009, 04:03 PM You should offer all games you are knowledgeable with. Good Luck.
