View Full Version : Sometimes, a company's name is its most limiting factor

Othertimes, its flagrant stupidity on part of the site's owner.

In this case, its both.

www.ernieandcompany.com

"Unlike many hosting providers that use custom DNS and evasive advertising to hide the fact that they co-locate, we do not try to hide this and believe that co-location is the best strategy for ErnieAndCompany.com. We do what we do best: develop and support targeted hosting products, and Xodiax does what they do best: operate world class data centers. It is a logical partnership that creates a win-win-win situation for our customers, ErnieAndCompany.com, and Xodiax"

I realize that the company is attempting to remain business like in admitting that they do not control their own bandwith and do not have immediate access to their servers, but does it seem a whee bit lamishly overkill?

This is also yet another company that claims to offer "unlimited bandwith". Unfortunately though, ernieandcompany feels that their shared hosting services are worth $600 a year.

I don't find it bad. Seems reasonable to me, but that's me...

Nothing wrong with that, if that is the truth than I want the truth, not some lie.

That's funnier than 90% of those joke flash movies people throw links around to. Classic!

That comes out to about $50/month. If they're catering to the low-end hosters, then they're screwed. If they can provide something worth $50 (like telephone support), they *might* make it. Unlimited should be removed though.

My Opinion,

Flash intros are the most limiting factor.

SoftWareRevue

Flash intros are horrid. There are still a lot of areas that the only option is 56k dial-up (like here :( ). I leave those sites as soon as I land there.

Yes, nothing like having 50% of your customers who actually do click past the flash intro coming into your site pissed off about it.

Speakerguy

Errr.... besides the fact that flash takes forever to load....

doesnt http://www.myeac.com/eac/content/intro.asp just suck?

I totally agree. I cannot understand hosts using a flash intro on their page for the life of me! I'd think you'd want a quick-loading page.

To get back on-topic, host names do hurt them. I would go with a host named
phoenix.net
worldhost.com OR
speedywebhost.ws

but I wouldn't go with a host named...
benandjerryshosting.com
evilhosting.com OR
billybob.net
