Hi

I know there are alot of successful hosts here, and I would like you to share your knowledge.

Could you tell me your experiences with hosting a larger number of customers, anything over 100. How much bandwidth does an average customer consume? As an example, on an average, how much bandwidth would 1000 customers use?

Thanks

It really depends on the market you target. If you target high end users with large websites which attract tons of visitors, you will have a high bandwidth. But if your customers are a random sample with many small accounts and a few large ones and yet fewer very large ones, you would look at anywhere between 250 and 300 Gig per month.

Hi

Is that per 100 or per 1000 users?

I would really appreciate more input, as I would like to know how much bandwidth the average user consumes.

Some of the optimistic math I have done tells me that there is alot to earn in the hosting business, while some of the more pesimistic math says that if users consums alot of bandwidth that most of the profit is gone.

That`s why I would like to hear your experiences.

Thanks

We see a 300-500 MB Average transfer per customer per month.

This is getting into the law of averages for hosting companies. Overall, most sites hosted are smaller, thus having smaller transfer traffic. About 80% of the sites hosted never exceed 1GB (most are under that) and you will have some that can go over 50GB (if you want to host those sites).

Taking everything into consideration, for every 1000 domains hosted, you are looking at about 300GB of traffic (per 1000 users). Some hosts cater to larger sites, while others target smaller ones. It all depends who you are marketing to and you want to make sure you price yourself accordingly.
