View Full Version : Netearthone vs OpenSRS
Solcre 02-15-2009, 05:48 PM Hi, i'm new in this business. I develope php applications and some corporative websites. I don't manage a big volume of domains since i live in a small country. Right now i probably have like 40 domains registered. I'm planning to work more in marketing to expand my business but i don't think i will be registering more than 150 domains anually...
I need a reseller account that integrates with WHMCS since i have my hosting integrated to it and now i want to integrate the domains also.
After doing some research i found: Netearthone and OpenSRS.
Netearthone Pro's:
Price, obviously.
No startup fee.
Some guy called Chris (nice to meet you heh) posts here.
Good support.
Good reviews in general.
Netearthone Negatives:
- Don't know how much they been in the business
- Not a top reseller (volume talking)
- Logicboxes (had a bad experience with them once)
Tucows / OpenSRS Pro's:
- Been working for years
- #3 in the rank
- Good reviews and support
Tucows / OpenSRS Negatives:
- Price (here i sell a domain at us$15 aprox, the margin is too short with them)
- Must make an initial deposit
It has been very very hard for me to choose one.
Any one knows if they offer a merchant or a way for me to charge my clients with CC ? Since i'm from South America this is hard for me to set it up. (3rd world still).
Maybe a payment solution makes me take the final decision for one of this two.
What do you guys say ?
PS: right now i'm working with GoDaddy. Sux. Full of crappy ads and the UI sux!
peter_anderson 02-15-2009, 06:40 PM Chris is the owner of NetEarth One.
I agree with you about the negatives for OpenSRS - they are very costly. You're right - Logicboxes does suck.
dreamcodedesign 02-15-2009, 06:53 PM Between the two, I would go with NE1 from experience. Great is a nice guy like you said. I agree with both of you, LogixBox does suck. But, I think NE1 is rolling out their own platform Quarter 3ish. :)
Dark Light 02-15-2009, 07:23 PM Between OpenSRS and NetEarthOne, I would personally recommend NE1.
Their prices are cheaper, but more important than that you'll find their support is excellent and available at most times of the day.
If you aren't going to be registering more than 150 domains annually, it would make sense to go with NE1 as you will get a better discount rate for your purchases.

That's not even a deposit (like eNom) but a non-refundable "application fee" which could NOT be used towards domain registration later on.
And yes, their prices are clearly higher. And even as one of their resellers, I am very curious why they could be the THIRD largest registrar on earth.

Microsoft uses them for domains. That may be a contributing factor. That's my guess.

I doubt if 1 single big player could make the difference. I guess Network Solutions have the most "corporate" clients, but even they are tens of thousands behind at number 4.
Solcre 02-15-2009, 10:09 PM So, let's go with netearthone ?
Let reach a conclusion with this questions answered:
How long have they been in the bussiness ?
Do they work with WHMCS ?
Do they offer any payment solution for me to bill my clients ? (i'm from south america)
Their API has good documentation ? (i want to integrate it with my own panel since i'm a developer)

LOL! Not us, just you.
dreamcodedesign 02-15-2009, 10:13 PM They've been in business since 2007. But, I think the NetEarth Group has been around in the Uk since 2000 or so. Yesm they work with WHMCS. They take PayPal, Google Checkout, and Credit Card. The API will based upon Logix Box.
Solcre 02-15-2009, 10:17 PM I need the API to be the most transparent as posible, what can you say about this ?
Also is it easy to integrate to my own site ?

I personally don't use the API. Just have it intregrated with WHMCS. You may want to read around http://manage.netearthone.com/kb/ to learn more about the API. :)
teachforjune-Scott 02-16-2009, 12:27 AM And NE1 will be moving to it's own system later this year. It has been confirmed by Chris.
They are a great registrar and very helpful!
Before they were their own accredited registrar, they were a reseller. I've been with them for about a year now and have had NO complaints whatsoever!
woods01 02-16-2009, 12:46 AM We've never used OpenSrS but we did talk to those folks when we were scouting a program to resale out of. Clearly if you can look beyond the LogicBoxes (since NE1 uses it) Ne1 is the obvious choice. I can't give you any other OpenSrs related cons other then I don't think they offer you a billing system to manage things but I could be wrong.
You'll benefit from a newer company as long as they are a stable company. It's very costly to be accredited and you have to meet an array of requirements to do what NetEarth does. We've been using them for almost a year now and the only problems we have had were LB related. Chris was always around to give a quick call or livechat to answer any other questions we've had.
I got both but I choose Netearthone because they got less price then OpenSRS
