We are launching a hosting and design search engine soon. Rather than starting with a bunch of empty banner slots screaming "Advertise Here!", we would rather display some real ads to help test our banner system. This is your opportunity to advertise your hosting or design service free. These slots will be given away free for one month or till a paying customer buys the slot (whichever comes first). I will limit the "Featured" pages to one host ad. One slot per host please, so apply for the one you really want first.
You can view the available slots at:

http://www.hostferret.com/advertise

You should print that page and then proceed to:

http://www.hostferret.com/freebie.htm to try to reserve the slot.
Good Luck!

This is a new site.

I really dislike your site, I think you give all host directories a bad name. All you are in it for is the advertising money. There is really nothing decent you can provide other then some advertising for the visitors to stare at.

What is the point of the site can you tell me because I don't see it?

Sorry if I am too rude.

ALL hosting directories are there to make money. Web hosting is a business not a hobby. Don't be so naive about the intentions of Hosting Directories. Just take a look at their ad rate cards. I admit freely that this site exists to make money.

sad sad indeed.

At least try to provide something worth looking for. Tell me one reason why someone should visit your site?

I submitted our banner. But in the form there were no space to put the link to the banner. It gave message that come back to see if you made it in time;. I doubt I did but who cares ;)

Your right in saying that all directories are out to make money, but.........

The top directories also provide services to their visitors, primarily in the form of proprietary content.

We have a 11 full time staff whose job it is to generate articles and news related to our industry.

Having been in this business for 4 years, I can tell you that you wont last 5 minutes without something more than a few pages of ads. There are another 55 + directories out there offering the same as you!

Wow! It must be great to have all that help. We are a small partnership (2 people!). What you are looking at when you visit the site is simply 3 weeks of part-time work. We have other aspects to our business that have nothing to do with hosting, though they are web related. I am sure as we continue to develop the site content will be forthcoming.
All I wanted to do here is maybe give those resellers that don't have much of a budget for ads a chance to get a some free space. More than likely we will continue to show those "freebies" past the month I mentioned. This was just a way of saying thanks to the board members who have offered advice.
I guess I will retract the offer for now (all the slots are filled by the way).
Good luck to you all.
Ruben

Exactly as James said. I see more and more of these hosting directories coming out. But they really have no dedicated or plan on how they can help, besides offering users to look at the pretty ads.

The way we look at it is that we've got two sets of customers:

1. Hosting Companies
2. Site visitors

Even though we derive all our income from hosting companies, we wouldn't make a penny if it wasn't for our visitors. So content is very important to us.

As well as ad space ;-)

You bring up some good points here James. I respect your knowledge in this area. My full time job involves teaching adults, and they are quite willing to offer criticism of my capabilities. I welcome that, given that we are standing on the same ground. As for Mikek, I can't really say, since he offers no URL or other information that would allow me to at least assume that he has any knowledge in this area.

Hmmm...

Considering your web site is down. I wouldn't use it. If you can't even find a decent host for your web site, how could you help anyone else find a host?

Site loads fine for me. It also looks like it has a lot of promise when it gets more popular. I like the layout/features that you have put into the site. Nice Job.

Your coment "if you can't even find a decent host" is kind of confusing to me. All hosts are down one time or another many times beyond there control. I guess all hosts that are located at VDI are now considered not decent hosts? Mhm....

A last piece of advice from me....

You should always assume that the majority of people posting here, know what they're talking about. You can also bet they run a hosting company or are involved in the industry in some way. As such they can and will have a direct effect on the success of your business.
