View Full Version : How much is this worth?
IamShipon1988 02-11-2009, 03:15 AM In the past we did a project for a school. Recently we remade the site and the employer recently told us that we can sell the layout to someone and keep the profit. The website is coded in valid XHTML, CSS and PHP. It uses a very simple custom coded (php) front-page blog (meaning blog on the main page). It also comes with a cPanel webmail login. The layout can easily be integrated/converted to a hosting site and any organization site. In fact, I think this layout can be used for any kind of site. We coded it back in late 2005 and uploaded to the web in early 2006. But we constantly upgraded the layout to match the new design trends. Any feedback?

SiddDubey 02-11-2009, 03:27 AM in my opinion, $300.. also, instead of using it as a hosting site or something.. i think its better being used as a personal site..
UsefulPC 02-11-2009, 10:45 AM I'd definitely say this is more suited to a personal site. As for a value well if the buyers brand was added as well as their content then it'd certainly be worth something at the moment i wouldn't be able to place a value upon it.
IamShipon1988 02-11-2009, 10:59 AM $300 would be a bit too little for us. I could see why you would say a personal site, if I were to judge it then I would straight up say its a personal site as well.
Ben, we would not sell the content on the site. We will sell all the scripts this is coded with but never the content. It's illegal to sell content without the permission of the owner.

What i actually meant was that if you put the content of the "Buyer" in for them. i.e. I realise that this is the content from the "Seller" or current owner as it is. I meant that it would be worth something once the content the new owner requires is input for them by you. Other than that if you were selling it as a template there really isn't that much too it. No Pictures, no header, no background, no content it's therefore no different to any other open source blog without content so of no value without content placed in the site for the new owner.
IamShipon1988 02-11-2009, 06:18 PM Oh sorry I misunderstood you. We will definitely install the layout for the new owner and also place in any content they need. It's more or less an hour worth of work for us. With that being said, how much do you think someone would but this for?
jerett 02-11-2009, 07:34 PM Honestly I wouldn't go far over $300 if that simply because it has the feel and features of blog themes often found for free or below $100. The only reason I would say $300 is to pay for your service to alter the content / logo / images / etc.
Just my opinion.
UsefulPC 02-11-2009, 07:46 PM I agree, i wouldn't expect much more than $300 simply because this script is so much like other Open Source Blog scripts available.
IGXHost 02-11-2009, 08:56 PM Anywhere from $200 - $300 sounds about right to me.
IamShipon1988 02-12-2009, 05:38 PM Thank you all for your replies. Really appreciate it.
SenseiSteve 02-12-2009, 05:48 PM You could advertise this for $200 to $300 which should attract quite a few prospects. Forget about how long it would take you to convert the site ... your prospect will pay the perceived value of your services. Don't undervalue your expertise.
gilbert 02-12-2009, 06:20 PM http://trcs.info/activities.php and newsletter.php are 404s for my fyi
IamShipon1988 02-14-2009, 06:59 PM Those two pages we had to remove upon the request of the previous client. The rest are kind of general information. Thank you for your comments. I am wondering if I should release it as a free layout for the Shrud Project (http://shrud.com) I am working on
Website Tiger 02-15-2009, 02:30 AM I would honestly say around $350
