I'm looking for a new web hosting service. My current web hosting company actually is NOT a discount. I must pay extra 10 dollars per month 1 SQL. Pay another extra for external domain point to root?
Any one have idea about Windows hosting plan at 1 & 1? I did not see a list of ASP component in Windows hosting plan.
Thanks in advance.

There has been mixed reviews when I done a search on them, but if you do a search on these forums using the search bar at the top you will probable get some more reviews :)

That's correct. There are mixed reviews about them - more of them are negative. Hence, be sure to do your research before signing up with them. Also, you may directly get in touch with the hosts if the ASP components are not listed on their website. BTW, what is requirement in terms of disk space and budget? Are you looking for MS SQL 2008?

Hello,
IMHO the price is not the most important factor when you choose a hosting company, and on your question - yes, 1&1 is a good hosting company.

1&1 is another large hosting company like GoDaddy. I would advise on doing research on them before making the switch.
My personal choice would be to find another reputable small to medium sized provider to where you can talk to the same group of people for support when you need it and not 5,000 different folks outsourced to whatever country that treat you as Account #8348329483294. I just like the more personal feel myself.

There is absolutely nothing on the 1&1 web site to indicate that they would be a good choice for Windows hosting.
They are still only running ancient ASP.NET 2.0 and there is a mind boggling lack of any real information about anything to do with Windows hosting technology.
There is no community forum, no knowledge base, the FAQ is a waste of space leading one to anticipate a support nightmare if you actually use your hosting for any real Windows technology site.
Major Windows technology such as IIS 7, SQL Server 2008, LINQ, ASP.NET AJAX, Silverlight, .NET 3.5 is not mentioned at all.
Their web site presents zero confidence in Windows hosting. Frankly anyone who has a nightmare experience at 1&1 would deserve it to some extent as they obviously come across as ignorant in the area of Windows hosting.
If you have static HTML for a web site then it might work, but in that case why not just use LINUX hosting?
(This is not a review. I have no experience with 1&1 but from a Windows point of view their web site is a scary thing)

I agree with this 100%. Going based on their website, I could never recommend them as a provider. Any reason you are requiring Windows Hosting? Are you actually using ASP? If not, you do understand that you can code a page in HTML or PHP on a windows machine and ftp it to a linux webserver and it will display fine? Your operating system on your personal PC has no effect on how the server interrupts the data. If you actually require Windows Hosting, I'd recommend against 1&1 as doing a search for reviews on them, you will find many more negative then positive.
I'd really check to make sure you actually need Windows Hosting. Serving static html/shtml, Ruby or PHP/mySQL, I'd highly recommend a linux provider over 1&1 any day.

1&1 is one of the webhosts we strongly do not recommend for our products due to issues with their environment and lack of knowledgable support replies we've gotten.
If you have a static site they're probably perfectly fine.

If you know what your doing and can work around most problems without help, 1&1 would work fine for you.
Although when I had them on a linux package the support was horrific, as majority of the time they restated the question I asked then gave a answer.

I've used 1&1. They're reliable, but they have mediocre support and speeds.

I dont like them, From my prespective, ive had them for like a month and it was complete horriable. Nothing bad towards them but there are limits on everything and it takes atleast 10 minutes to do anything.

This is the Windows hosting forum and for Windows hosting, they appear to be about as clueless as it is possible to get.

I am very confused when it comes to 1&1. There are lot of mixed reviews about them. I was speaking with a customer of them on ASP.NET forum and he mentioned that their shared hosting is ridiculous but the vps has exceptional support. I am still to digest this as they treat the "bigger customers" in different way compared to the "smaller customer" and this is unfortunately not acceptable to me!

Thanks for comments. 1 and 1 is out-of-picture now.

Somehow that sounds like "reliably bad"
