View Full Version : Innohosting vs. GeekStorage reseller accounts
maxjohnson7 02-04-2009, 09:06 PM Hi,
I am looking to get myself a reseller account to host the websites I create for my clients. I don't have a ton of clients right now so I don't need anything real big.
I have narrowed down my choices to the smallest reseller options from innohosting and geekstorage. I like both of the feature sets they have, and they each seem to get pretty good reviews here, but I've never used reseller hosting before, so I don't know 100% what to look for. I'm looking specifically for things that make the reseller account easier to use and more reliable (I'm a web designer, not a server admin, and I don't want to spend unnecessary time wrestling with hosting accounts if I don't have to).
Also, many of the sites I create are Wordpress sites, and loading time is the major reason why I want to switch away from my current host (rather than just upgrading to their reseller plan). Is there any good way to compare how fast a wordpress site would load on either innohosting or geekstorage? Geekstorage says their hosting is run on Litespeed, which makes loading of scripts faster, but then I have noticed some threads recently here about how GeekStorage VPS servers are slow. Is that just for VPS, or has anybody with a reseller account also been affected?
Thanks for any info,
-Max
Any
maxjohnson7 02-05-2009, 01:37 PM Anyone, anyone??
Shaun [WhirlHost] 02-05-2009, 05:14 PM Take a search on WHT for reviews on both, double check for any specials they have on and stuff like that, you should be able to decide by the reviews/testimonials that they have had.
If you want easy, make sure your reseller is a cPanel/WHM one.
As for the speed, maybe doing a ping between both hosts or something? Unless you can find people with both hosts and have wordpress installed. :S
Best of luck. :)
maxjohnson7 02-05-2009, 05:27 PM Yeah, I've done the WHT search for each. Innohosting appears to have a slightly better track record as far as support, but most of the complaints about GeekStorage are about their VPS's being slow, hence my questions about VSP vs. reseller accounts at GeekStorage.
Both have promotions that are about comparable.
GeekStorage seems to have better servers (RAID, and Litespeed being the major features that Innohosting is missing).
Innohosting seems to win on support (including end-user support), and generally being set up better to help a reseller get into business.
I guess that's my major question then - if one of the big advantages that GeekStorage has is Litespeed, but their servers aren't actually that fast due to overselling or something else, then I would go with Innohosting. If GeekStorage is really 2x as fast on loading Wordpress sites, then I might go with them.
So, does anyone have a wordpress site hosted with either GeekStorage or Innohosting that I could try loading? PM it to me if you don't want everyone to find out about it.
Thanks,
-Max
Shaun [WhirlHost] 02-05-2009, 05:30 PM Well then, it's up to you really...
Do you think you'll be needing support? If yes, go with InnoHosting, if no, go with GeekStorage.
Either way, InnoHosting has a 16 day money back guarantee, and GeekStorage has a 60 day money back guarantee.
All the best.
mergen 05-09-2009, 04:35 AM Wow, I am surprised that this thread didn't get more love. It wasn't even posted in the wrong forum.
Does anyone have experience with both companies for reseller accounts?
I am looking to host some of my smaller accounts on a reseller and am looking at both GeekStorage and Innohosting. Any recommendations from anyone?
MaxJohnson, what did you do? Who did you got with and why? And, how is it going so far?
I have an Inno reseller account and a Geekstorage shared account. The GS server I am on (Zeus) always seem kind of .... "tired" ... a lot. Yeah the Litespeed thing is great and all but when the server load sits at 8 or 9 all day (just checked randomly it is at 9.18) and is slow anyway, that doesn't really help out matters much now does it?
vivithemage 05-09-2009, 02:03 PM I have a server with innohosting, and I must have submitted at least 40 tickets over the past few months, they are very snappy to reply :).
Another thing I'll note, if you need support in a hurry - don't count on Geekstorage.
For example, and I'm not pressed about this, I sent in a support ticket 2 hours ago to reset a password for the support section. No reply. With Inno, this would have been taken care of within 15-30 minutes.
tension666 05-09-2009, 10:22 PM DO NOT get Geekstorage, no matter what you do. trust me
mergen 05-09-2009, 11:21 PM WOW there are a lot of negatives against GeekStorage. It really seems that they have lost quite a bit of step lately with maybe expanding too much.
I just purchased reseller with Innohosting. I am glad I made that move. Of course, SharkSpace had better specs, but the line about not overselling at Innhosting got my attention. And, quality support is always better.
Who likes spending couple hours every week on hosting issues anyway?

Essentially GeekStorage servers are overloaded? I mean if they are using Dual Quad-core processors, the server load should be 8 or less in order to be underloaded, yes?

Why? What experience did you have with them?

Nice to know I made the right choice.
maxjohnson7 01-20-2010, 04:11 PM Wow,
I haven't checked here in quite some time, but it looks like my original question has been answered fairly well, after an initial lack of responses.
I ended up going with Innohosting, and have now been with them for almost a year. So far, the best hosting company I've worked with (out of about 10). Great customer service, and the servers have been plenty fast enough for me.
The only thing I would like would be for Innohositing to put a little more effort into net security... I was disappointed to find out that they don't allow SFTP or any type of shell access at all (such as RSSH to run SFTP)... They claim that not allowing shell access is for security, but not allowing at least RSSH/SFTP reduces overall security. You can ftp using ssl (FTPS), but some ftp clients don't support that function, and so for some of my resold clients the only way for them to securely access their webspace is to use the SSL .cpanel uploader, which is a pain to use compared to an ftp client...
Anyway, kind of a minor concern, and overall I've been very happy with my choice. Sounds like from the other comments that my choice has been backed up...

hugege 02-07-2010, 01:35 AM Some of innnohosting's servers's memory limit is only 32M.This is no good for wordpress. The update processes for both plugins and wordpress itself will fail with a memory limit of 32MB.I try several times to advise them to increase but fail.Innohosting is good but wish them concern about this issue.

I'm hosting 3 WordPress blogs on one of my accounts with them and have had no such problem.

Not all the servers.Maybe your server don't happend to this problem.
oracleweb 02-07-2010, 04:42 PM I have accounts on two different servers and run many Joomla sites.
I have been there many years now with only good things to say :)
If a problem did come up with some server I would feel confident that I could talk to them and have them fix it or move me to another server.
And I am not nice about hosts;-) I gave complained bitterly about several
hosts on these boards...
Th only reason I will still host some things at another place is that I need red5 and ffmeg and heavy podcasting for two of my sites:)
Of course, once I outgrow reseller I could have this at Innohosting by getting a VPS :)

I host a couple of sites with wordpress blogs on an Innohosting reseller account, and did have a problem with upgrades failing because of the memory limit. I reported this to support and they fixed it for me very quickly.

mergen 02-14-2010, 08:35 AM Innohosting VPS is a bit too expensive compared to other quality vendors such as WiredTree and ServInt. For reseller hosting probably Innohosting is the best. Truly enjoyed hosting there.
Hopefully, in the future their VPS pricing will be in line with WiredTree/ServInt. Right now, the bandwidth, CPU, storage are a bit on the smaller side with very little room for upgrades.
