Can someone tell me what it is... Perhaps have a comparision and why I should use it for servers.

RAID-1 is disk mirroring.

what you are exactly looking for? There are different raid configurations and each has it's own benefits.... If Raid-1 or Raid-10 works for your friend, it doesn't mean it will work for you :)

looks to me he's trying to find out what each one is and the benefits of each so he knows what he wants ;)

For web servers I suggest RAID-5. For large and mission-critical database servers Raid-0 works well (if you need redundancy, then Raid-10)...

For other applications, it depends what you intend to do.... high-speed write or high-speed-read...

Yes, in terms of read/write SPEED. Not redundancy -- as I said you will need RAID-10 if you need redundancy
