View Full Version : unable to mount drive

I've got a server that just arrived this morning from another DC that didn't want to troubleshoot, it's got a 13GB West Digital HD in it that's failed somehow. I've taken it out of the machine and attempted to access it on another box, but when I try to mount it I get the ol'

mount: /dev/hdb1 is not a valid block device

which is usually indicative of a hardware issue. It seems to spin up fine, but makes a clicking sound every few seconds. This drive has a Linux ext2 filesystem - any ideas? I'm about to take it down the street to a data recovery service, but thought someone might have some useful pointers before we spend the big $$.

Any input appreciated.
