View Full Version : Shoutcast Server with Implux.net
Chris Powell 02-02-2009, 09:08 PM hi all.
listeners on my radio site are complaining about the stream keeps on skipping/buffering etc.
ive asked many of the djs to do internet speed tests and their upload/download speeds are really good.
im just wondering if the problem is down to the shoutcast server itself really
is there anyway for the djs to test whether it is them causing the stream probs or whether its the shoutcast server while broadcasting, other than doing a traceroute?
which should i get them to try using CMD or Command?
im new to this stuff
i did this one

dreamcodedesign 02-02-2009, 09:15 PM How are you streaming to the box? Do you have a playout box at home or no? As for 9, that's just you hitting the firewall. :)
Chris Powell 02-02-2009, 09:35 PM box?

Box is another name for server... :) My friends also runs a radio station and he has a server at home that feeds the stream to the his server in Houston. Are you doing that also or no? If you are it could be your connection from home to your server. Steamline is on a different network than your site. I thought I fixed it in my previous post, But I meant the router did not respond instead firewall thought, sorry.
Chris Powell 02-02-2009, 09:48 PM Hmm, thanks for your reply GCM..... but i dont quite understand what you mean. do you think it is a problem with djs internet and/or pc or is it a problem with implux.net shoutcast server and is something that implux have to fix?
thanks for your help GCM

What's your site? I'll be happy to test the stream for a day or two. I'm listening to music while I'm working anyways.. :)
Chris Powell 02-02-2009, 10:25 PM my internet radio site is: www.danceairwaves.net (http://www.danceairwaves.net) :agree:
cheers chris

Ok, thanks. I'll starting testing (listening) now. Hopefully there isn't any rap in this. ;)
Chris Powell 02-02-2009, 10:32 PM heh ok... though the Autoserver is on atm. the stream only skips/buffers when djs are playing live which shouldn't be happening because they all have decent broadband upload/download speeds. the stream is only 128kbps
i sent a support ticket to implux.net too but takes a while to get a reply from them so thought id ask here too
cheers chris

Oh ok. That also happens to my friend when he's mixing live... I'll ask him what causes it since I forget.

Cyborg-- 04-13-2009, 03:14 PM Also check the following :
- Shoutcast logs (if you have access) to see if you see any error message
- Bandwith usage graphs and stream usage graphs, to see if you have peeks when djs are playing, and if the bandwith is consistent with the number of listeners (by example if you have 50 users at 128 kbit/s, you should have a minimum usage of 6.4 mbit, + a bit of overhead ).
- The speed of your djs might be good but inconsistent, so checking the buffer values of the server can be useful, if you have a 64 kbit buffer then if no data is received for 1/2 second then theere will be a cut...
Tweaking a live streaming server is not always an easy task...

FastServ 04-13-2009, 05:39 PM Test the Shoutcast server here:
http://www.radiotoolbox.com/online_tools/stream_test.php
It could give you some insight to the issue.
proradio 04-19-2009, 01:28 PM Hi Chris
Did you get this sorted? If not drop me an email and I am happy to give you a free month hosting to see if that is the problem. We also provide a remote control panel for DJs to log into so they can switch between Auto DJ and live without having full access to your admin panel. Drop a line to us accounts[@]proradiostreaming.com
