Hey,
Is this an error?
Phone numbers have 1-XXX-XXX-XXXX
3-3-4 digits...
Just thought I would throw that out there.

No. It's common to change the "phrasing" of the numbers if the corresponding letters on a phone's keypad spell something related to the company.

But don't you think that the blank spots should match the 334?
I don't think it's right for them to model it after their phone number.
Just my opinion though...

No, it's perfectly normal. I think you're being a bit picky..

As Tom said, this kind of stuff is relatively common and doesn't make much of a difference really.

I saw that too and at first I thought it was an error as well as I thought it only had 9 digits instead of 10.
Once I looked at HG's number in comparison to the "example" number you get with the hosting, I realized that they were just modeling the format after their own.

Yes, that's a common practice. They could even make it
1-866-96-GATORAID and it would work. The phone system ignores extraneous digits.

Okay, you're definitely overreacting.
What difference if it's:
1-XXX-XXX-XXXX (3-3-4)
or
1-XXX-XX-XXXXX (3-2-5)
It still comes to the correct amount of numbers... do the math.

If you look at the circled part of the image (circled in blue) you will see it's not 1-XXX-XX-XXXXX (3-2-5) as you stated but is in fact 1-XXX-XX-XXXX (3-2-4) which is definitely wrong.
What I am seeing in that image (circled in blue is)
1-866-XX-XXXX (circled in blue) <-- Missing a digit.
1-866-XX-XXXXX (HostGator's number)
The number in that image circled in blue is in fact missing a digit, it's a 10 digit number including the 1 when it should be 11. It is 1+3+2+4 when it should be 1+3+3+4.
I did the same thing as everybody else at first and looked at HG's actual number and was like "No, it's fine"

Thank you. Sheesh. Nobody understands. I am not mad or concerned or anything, it just shouldn't be like that and I thought I should post about it.
Obviously I shouldn't have.
