Hi I am going to be starting a site to display some pictures for some friends. I would like to install some freeware photo gallery software with the following requirements:

-Thumbnails
-Commenting by visitors
-PHP/MySQL based

Thats pretty much it, I checked hotscripts.com and pretty much went through all of them, some seem hard to install, some are easy but dont have a comment system, the ones that are perfect for what i want of course cost a rediculous amount.

Theres got to be some popular photo gallery software out there that most people use that is free, easy to install etc.

If anyone can help me out here I would really appreciate it, thanks!

This was one of the best I found after much installing and testing of various scripts. Modifying to fit your site's theme will take a bit of effort though.

Used for client's site. Modified use here (http://CrewMinistry.org).

Script Site (http://gallery.sourceforge.net/)

Good luck.

I like you have been looking for the same script and found PhotoPost (http://photopost.com) ; I hope to be able to try it out within the next month.

I use Gallery on several of my sites and love it.

You can see one of them at http://clevereddie.com/photos.htm

(Note: my webhost has been undergoing some major changes and things have been real screwed up. If you get errors viewing this link try to refresh a time or two. It's not a problem with Gallery.)

Gallery is from http://gallery.sourceforge.net

BTW: Gallery does have a comment feature, I've just disabled it.

I use a nuked version of My_eGallery for my site.

I haven't tried installing the stand-alone version yet, so I dont know how easy it is to install. The nuked version was quite easy to install though. It is also able to create thumbnails dynamically...

I dont have a link handy, but a visit to google should be sufficient ;)

I HIGHLY recommend this script. I've used it on about 8 different sites now.. very easy to install and configure, and the template allows you to easily manipulate the output html.

Here's the latest install I did (www.daveroels.com) I disabled the comments, main gallery page, login text, etc.. and then tweaked it to do exactly what the client wanted.

Works like a charm!
