What types of machines will you be hosting off of?
How much of your server's resources will you limit an account to? How long will you guarantee this offer for?
And will you offer any discounts for yearly prepayment?

And with this plan I assume it includes your own cgi-bin as all your other accounts do as well.

1. This is off of our Dual Pentium III 800Mhz, 512MB RAM and Ultra Wide SCSI 10k 160 disks.

2. Currently, we do not limit any resources.

3. There are no discounts for yearly prepayment as the price is low enough as it is. The price is guaranteed to not increase as long as you stay on board.

4. Yes, you will have your own cgi-bin access as well.

Sounds nice :) thinking of signiing up, but I do have one question, the site I want to move as is uses 6 mysql databases, what extra charge would there be to add 1 or 2 mysql dbs to the package?

MSW

For each extra, a low fee of $5 per database

What is the charge for extra disk space? And how many users do you plan to put into each box? Will you monitor the CPU usage of users?

It seem like a great deal if the machines are not allowed to become overlaoded.

We limit each server to 200 domains

Yes, we monitor CPU usage. We have to. If you are unreasonably using too many resources, and it affects other users performance, we will move you to another server.

It seem like a great deal if the machines are not allowed to become overlaoded.

Wow - amazing price, amazing features.

A couple of questions:

1) Is phpMyAdmin installed? / Do you allow telnet on this account?
2) How often backups? Daily?
3) What billing options do you offer - monthy/quarterly/yearly etc...

I'm also looking at site5.com - but the webspace/bandwidth offer here has got me interested!

Thanks!

I purchased this plan about 2 weeks ago and all I can say is that is the best hosting experience that I have ever had! The technical support is Superior and the people are very nice and willing to work with you! The servers are fast and are not overloaded! I could go on all day about WeinBar and how I love being hosted by them. But I have to run. If I were you I would go with no other hosting company. Go with WeinBar Hosting you will NOT be disappointed!

I love the offer. Couple questions:

1- Bandwidth - is that web or does it also include ftp, telnet and email?

2- Logs - How far back do the logs go, how often are they reset and are previous months logs available? Also, do they include referer info?

3- Resellers - Can this acct be upgraded later to a reseller acct?

Danke! :)

Hi Michael,

Is there a minimum contract period for this plan? I saw this sentence from your website

WeinBar Communications is now offering a yearly special to host your site in our Phoenix, AZ NOC.

DJ

MSW
04-21-2001, 01:40 AM
OK, now for the answers to some of the questions:

The transfer allowance is for web and ftp traffic. The logs go back about 30 days then are reset. You can upgrade any time to a reseller account.

The standard Akopia cart is included (although a bit buggy)

There is no contract. You are month to month as long as you stay, pricing not to go up. If you decide to terminate your plane, I cannot guarantee that this will still be available should you decide to return. We are running this offer until the end of Aprilm and I am not sure if/when it will return (it could be in a week, a month, 3 months, never... I am just not sure).

Hi,

Any chance you might have a dedicated special coming up soon? I need a place to set up a hosting business where the users have control over their environment. I'm primarily interested in no setup fees (and as much server as I can get for a reasonable monthly fee) and am willing to agree to a 12 month minimum contract for a pass on the setup.

Let me know when you get time.

Hi Michael,

Your offer has really gotten my attention. Just a couple of questions though.

1) Would you charge extra for adding additional domains and subdomains to the account or are they free? If free, how many can one have? The reason I ask this is I have a few domians, but only one that actually gets visitors right now. I would still like to get the other ones up as well.

2) My site uses about 30-40GB/month but average 0.00 on server load as it is, so I will need to buy more bandwidth. I noticed on a post earlier in this thread that you mentioned extra GB/month is $2.00, but on your offer page it says $2.50. Which one is it? (If $2.00, you've got me signing up) :D

Thanks,
Saeed

Well, I have to say I had a very problem rich week with WeinBar. 2 outages, DBI not installed, and SendMail not sending mail out of the box. But now everything is working and as I have said it 1000 times before, their connection speed is AMAZING! I have never seen my page load as fast as it does from the weinbar server. Therefor I have decided to stick with them for a little longer and see how things go. I really hope they get more tech people. If they do that then they will without question be one of the best webhosts.

The way I see it is, get an account, you can try it out for 30days and see if you're happy with it or no. If not you will get your money back.

Mich, I am satisfied with your performance so far, but do you not think it a good idea to concentrate on your existing customers that have been complaining on this forum before trying to promote yet more business, it is apparent that you are the success of this company and the big mistake many hosts make is to over promote their business without offering an adequate level of technical support, this is my personal opinion and if you are not careful i feel you will also be another company people curse on this BB for a poor level of technical support

I feel the same way. The service is great when working, but there is a big lack of tech support. If you could find a balance between customers need and tech support staff you would have a top notch company which all of us would recommend.

My advise to you is just to remember that "A happy customer will tell 2 people, but an unhappy customer will tell 100 people."

MSW
05-01-2001, 09:55 AM
Thank you for your comments.

First: I am extending this offer because a lot of people asked me to, so I obliged.

Second: This is shared hosting and not dedicated servers. We are in the process of hiring more support personnel (you need a job?).

Third: We have not had any problems until a few days ago. Then, stuff happened. I don't think it is right to judge a companies support on a few days experience. I understand you are a new customer (welcome!), and fell right into the middle. But, this offer is for shared hosting and we have not had many issues on this.

Thankyou,
I dont know when you done it, but the traceroute didnt resolve 10 minutes ago, I completed the tracert from the visualroute online traceroute server about 1 minute before i sent the message.

And I do not mean to bring these messages into the open, and I do not mean to insult you as I as much as you would like a good working relationship, but this seems to be the only place I can contact you and get a reply!

I am back from the hospital now. I am on ICQ now. I can get email now.

My support people were trying to hold the fort down with other issues as well (Our business dows not only revolve around support, but other day to day activities as well, so when we run skeleton, there are areas which may be lacking, which I apologize for.

Although James is very good, he is not at the office usually, but at the NOC. He has his laptop to respond to helpdesk issues, and support emails are routed to a support box which hasn't really been checked.

The help desk is for your use to ask the support questions. You take the risk of not getting a timely answer when you submit a request to support@weinbar.com. But, it will get answered.

My other techs are part time and basically answer the help desk questions.

As for your traceroute, I did not do anything. You probably just needed a bit more time to have DNS propagate. That is something that is out of my control.

Damn that is one hell of a coincidence, although i know myself DNS cannot update that quickly so i may have just been a little unfortunate with my timing, I apologise

Many aspects of my life include bad timing :-(

To conclude, Mich, I have told you on several occasions you provide excellent value for money.
I accept that what has been experienced is a matter of bad timing of events.
I do hope you are well after your hospital visit, as everyone on this message board is.

I accept you have done more than enough on your own behalf with hardware upgrades to compensate for the downtime on the server and i know not many hosts would have been willing to keep clients happy in that manner.
~~~~~~~~
As a foot note: the problem that *I* caused with the server to not reboot was due to an incorrect binding with the 8 IP addresses I requested, 7 of these addresses were not bound when I got the server and I bound them incorrectly, should these not have been bound to eth0 when you set up the server initially?
Hi, everyone! It's reallygood to read other people's comments here about Weinbar. I signed up for the $14.99 special 5 days ago. I have had somewhere from 6-8 support questions during that time. Only one of the support questions was due to my mistake of leaving off the last number of my IP address.
However, all my questions have been answered professionally, expeditiously, and to my satisfaction... except one pending (waiting 3 days for them to install Info-Zip as promised.)
How old is this company? I can't believe they have no FAQ yet. That would alleviate many of my support questions.
I have a few suggestions...
1. Allow more than 1 email address on acct. (I work from @home.com and webtv.net)
2. Please don't limit characters in the support description box (it frustrates people, and it is inadequate space to explain many of the problems)
3. Write a good FAQ that explains a) what those extra files are when acct is opened; b) apache coding and password encryption; c) explains why the public_html and the www folder are the same; d) etc, etc.
4. Keep up the good work... and get well soon.
So... I really don't have many complaints... but I do need "unzip" installed before I can use any of my weinbar webspace.
What is NOC? I noticed you said that James does not work from the office most of the time, but that he is usually working from his laptop in NOC.
NOC = Network Operations Center, where all of the servers on a network are located.
Does anybody know how to contact weinbar's tech supprt, preferably through a live person (i.e. not email/helpdesk)? I tried to call several times, yet there were no answer... I need a server reboot!!! :(
i like the help desk a lot but with a forum like vbulletin its like having a faq that is built by the users themselves plus other knowledgeable people besides the support staff can help people
also a forum is one of the place people look at to see how good the service is i like the current help desk fine but a more open forum would only help them more
sorry if this is kinda off topic but i know Michael Weinstein reads this thread
Speaking of Vbulletin there is a little discussion about weinbar there at
http://vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=15625&highlight=gzip
It seems that the weinbar plan does not have zlib enabled which allows for gzip compression which can greatly decrease bandwidth from Vbulletin pages.
Thats the only real limitation I see of the Weinbar plan. Is there any plan to include this feature?
Well, Weinbar finally got the program installed for me yesterday that they promised, and I appreciate it. However, I'm now having a problem with chmod permissions. At my other host, I could make files web-readable and executable with 705 or 755; but it appears that I have to put them all at 777 to make them work at Weinbar, otherwise I get "publishers refuses permission"... and I don't think 777 permissions are safe.
Maybe, I'm doing something wrong?
Again, I ask "HOW LONG HAS WEINBAR BEEN SELLING WEBHOSTING? What version of Linux are they running on the $14.99 plan? The above chmod concerns, as well as many other concerns, should've been answered in a FAQ. I'm trying to be patient, but it really bothers me that there is no FAQ at Weinbar. A FAQ is basic, and should've been ready before they started selling webspace.
Regards,
I'm also considering a move to weinbar. Right now its site5 or weinbar.
Site5 costs WAYY too much for my bandwidth need -- just about 12GB/month max -- but I can only chose 10 or 20 there. Yet if I go over its $12/GB which is insane..
Weinbar is lacking in the FAQ side of things. It'd be nice to have a forum at least aside from everyone asking here and hoping to heck we'd be answered.
/Slightly off-topic - apologies to original poster + Weinbar
There is another thread around here in which Matt (from Site5) clarifies the bandwidth charges - it's not $12/GB, it's around half that.
Thanks!
Also, I forgot to ask for Weinbar, the page and thread dont mention anything about aliases/forwarding email addresses...
Unfortunate? You've been
answering questions about Weinbar
features here. Why the change of
heart? I see no reason why people
shouldn't be allowed to ask and
get questions answered here
instead of being told to go to a
different web board.
Simple logistics. When you have to regularly check 10 different forums, 100+ different threads, you start to lose track of where/what/when/etc.
It makes more sence to take the support issues to the proper support forum. This way, they can give better support. :)
chrisb
Maybe so, but can any webuser go to the support forum... or is it just for Weinbar customers? My concern is that this should be open to all webusers, not just Weinbar customers.
They are open to everyone I think. There is also a pre-sales area for, pre-sales stuff. :)
I believe its forums.weinbar.com, but theres a link on weinbar.com to em.
Absolutely. http://forums.weinbar.com is open for everyone.
Also, the special is still active for anyone who wants to get in on it.
Just a note that we have been very successful with this promotion and are now adding it to our lineup permanently (but you must come from WHT to get it :D )
