What other nationalities that are good IT workers...Aside from *cough* the Americans:D or Brits.

By the way, I'm not an American.

Nope, it doesn't. Although some countries have a lot more money, therefore there are more computers which will therefore output more IT professionals.... but you will find good IT workers in any country.

Jeff,

I hope that you are not in the USA. That kind of question could get you in a world of hurt with the EEOC. Just a word of advice.

Jeffreyw you just recieved the dumb question of the day award.

Nationality has nothing to do with who's a good IT worker

It's all about brains, how much you have, what you can do etc, there's nothing to do with nationality.

Agreed. :)

I hope I'm not saying this wrongly, but IMO, I know many Middle-Eastern persons who are very IT tech oriented and are very skilled and bright.

I kinda like humans. And find that Humans in general are not half bad in the tec area - you just have to open your mind a bit and expand your horizons :)

I'm rather fond of mice myself
but they tend to get their feet caught up in the cables, and then want to chew away, and ... ouch, poor mouse!!!

Anyways, the moral of the story:
It don't matter what nationality (or sex, or race, or sexual prefference, or even age) you are, you CAN be a good tech (even a great one) if you apply yourself and learn. The idea is to learn something new every day, and to learn from our mistakes.

Contrary to an earlier poster's idea to use humans, I think Alaskan polar bears would be perfect, completely fitting the mold of support personnel hosts are using.

By using the bears, a host woould no longer need to create ridiculously complicated ticket schemes to avoid answering or responding to most requests.

Because of the time difference, Polar bears can be sure not to answer questions in the period the request is asked. During the summer, requests for help would be largely ignored, as the bears are out looking for food and during the winter they are sleeping.

They are also hostile to human contact, making them ideal for a host's support department. And finally, they would have no idea what the customers were asking about or how to fix the problem, apparent hiring requirements for these positions with many hosts.

In US the IT demographics vary but we will be safe to generalise :

20% are Indians ( software and dev )
10% other Asians

Lots of others inc Russians, East Europeans, Latin Americans and rest of world.

Also Global IT workforce according to Fortune has the maximum diversity in terms of race and nationality.

Now plz no bull that Indians stealing US IT jobs or Asians working for cheaper rates.

If you own companies or Goverment brings them here on H1, gives green card after 5 years and US passport sponsorship to most, it is not their fault they are successful.

Also in US, Indians have the highest per capita income and higher education levels ( after Jews) for any ethnic minority.
NYTimes had a recent article and their income was $77,000 per household/ year.

1.8 million Indians living in US have a bigger spending/market/income potential than 12 million hispanics ( with no offense to anyone ).

In NYC area you may see lots of cabbies/workers/low level staff from most South Asian nations, but they do have a high savings rate and are not the majority.

Also, as a country India is way way behind others in technology and quality of life.

But Indians outside India do better than most other people.

Speaks about the politicial and economic setup in India.

I left that country for good and never ever regretted coming to US :)

I find it hard to talk to most of the people from India on the phone. Their accent makes it impossible to understand and their English is not the best in general. I'm not talking about everyone from India, but generally about the Indian workers in companies like AOL or Verizon.

Hey there,

10 points to the Aussies I say.

Australians are hard working and relentless. Kinda our culture I guess considering Australia was a convict settlement in it's beginning.
