Anyone have any experience with *******? I searched and read the threads posted previously, sounds like they were having problems a while back. I wondered if anyone has recent/current experience with them?
Thanks!
Thanks!

I searched and read the threads posted previously, sounds like they were having problems a while back. I wondered if anyone has recent/current experience with them? Thanks! Geek3 09-18-2002, 03:34 PM xor, to be honest, i think only less than 5% of the entire host pool is talked about here in WHT. There are hundreds dicussed here, if not thousands.. however, it's still less than 5% (MAYBE 10%) I haven't heard anything about them. mrzippy 09-20-2002, 03:28 AM Here's my *******.com story. I needed a dedicated server for ONE domain, so I posted in the requests forum and ******* submitted a good offer. I had asked for a GUI control panel for the domain (my client needed it), and they said I could use an "evaluation" version of ensim. (I think it was ensim.. might have been plesk.. I can't recall and too lazy to go look.) Anyway.. after paying them, getting the server, and then playing with the control panel.. I found out that the eval version would not allow me to create more than 1 email address. The control panel was totally crippled and useless for what my client needed to do. (Which was to create and manage over 100 email addresses for his employees.) So I emailed ******* and told them the problem and said the control panel doesn't do what I had asked for. They offered to "upgrade" the control panel for a "small fee".. blah blah blah... After a few email exchanges, I finally emailed back and said that they had mislead me and that I was NOT interested in upgrading for ANY price, etc... (After all, if I wanted to pay more my request in the forum would NOT have included a maximum price!) Anyway.. to make a long story short, they refused to refund the setup fee.. instead.. they told me everything was my fault because I hadn't specifically asked for a control panel that would allow management of multiple email addresses. !! Their logic seems downright stupid to me (why wouldn't you expect a control panel to manage more than one email address?!), and I couldn not believe they wouldn't refund my money.. even to maintain good customer service relations. So.. I DO NOT recommend them. There are other companies that I feel would be better. I ended up going with www.meganetserve.com and have found them very good. (Email them and they may even waive some of the setup fee.. it's worth a try.) Feel free to email this thread to *******.com. I hope they realize that their petty childish is costing them business. (And that they should learn the specific of the products they offer.) Good luck. xor 09-20-2002, 03:46 AM Originally posted by mrzippy So.. I DO NOT recommend them. OH NO! I just signed up with them last night, yikes! Thank you for your post though MrZippy, and thanks for the recommendation of MegaNetServe -- I am checking out their website right now. I agree, I think that any host could assume that one would want to manage more than 1 email address! To add my story so far... I got me initial welcome and informational email. I then tried to login as a reseller (so I could start creating new domains), but I keep getting an error message saying that the password is wrong. When I click on their 'I forgot my password' link I get an error from that too. I also tried to set up their Name Servers at my registrar -- they aren't recognized as a valid Name Server. So far, it doesn't look good! I've emailed them, still waiting for a reply. mrzippy 09-20-2002, 03:52 AM Originally posted by xor I agree, I think that any host could assume that one would want to manage more than 1 email address! Yes, that's what I thought too. Don't get me wrong.. I thought the ******* folks were very nice. But they were nice morons. They didn't know the specifics of the software they were selling.. and that's just plain dumb. You shouldn't make an offer if you aren't SURE you can actually provide what you're offering. I've been with www.meganetserve.com for two months now and they've been very good so far. I've been impressed with the speedy responses they always give, as well as the quick reboot when I needed one. TheDesignFly 09-21-2002, 07:36 PM I've been with ******* for several months, I quite like them but then again do I have a windows server so I guess don't know much! mrzippy 09-22-2002, 03:34 PM Keep in mind that the only reason I do not recommend *******.com is because I felt they screwed me over by "selling" me an incomplete and inaccurate product that would not meet my specified needs. I have no idea if they are any good at actually providing decent servers or admin, or anything else.. |
