Hi,
A friend of mine, who is a programmer, wants to implement a wireless WAN for a client, between 2 offices that are 10 KM (6 miles) apart. They are looking for a wireless WAN solution with an ISDN as a back-up connection. The platform will be NT.

A 2 mbps connection will be great, or even a 512 kbps will be good enough. Mostly encrypted text transfer - including business transanctions.

I dont have any expertise in this area. Can anyone suggest me the best solution among the available options? Also, any book, website and other reference suggestions will be very useful.

Also, the system needs maximum security on the wireless routes. Somebody please suggest me the best hardware solution available, (cost effective), and the best encryption solution.

Please suggest me some good books and websites on a step-by-step how-to, both the setup on the server and also the networking part of it.

TiA.

Wing.

Hello,

Your best option if both the buildings have a clear line of sight to each other would be microwave networking. If you get the right antenna you can achieve distances of up to 12 miles or so but it will be very very expensive.

I would do a search for 'microwave networking' in any search engine and you should come up with several tutorials as well as vendors.

Mike
