I'm working on focusing the news resource page I have for one of my sites and I need some help from the users here that take an active role in updating their news links to the various gems on the Internet.

Ned patter might have some interesting islamic and iraqi sources, as well as some of the other actively opinionated users here.

Just recently have I started to list the news into sections, if you can offer suggestions to the categories, and even enough "Gems" (State why they are gems to you), I would surely appreciate it as I am an eternal news hound.

My current page can be viewed here:

Ananova (http://www.ananova.com/) has news of a slightly different nature. Reuters (http://www.reuters.com/home.jhtml;jsessionid=VYKPEHLFB5ZOQCRBAEKSFFA?action=check&_requestid=1026856), the Washington Post (http://www.washingtonpost.com/) and the New York Times (http://www.nytimes.com/) are all great traditional sources. If you want to try debating current topics, try Metafilter (http://www.metafilter.com/). I was referred to this site by a journalist from Slate, one of the few places on the net where you can argue with working writers. Watch your spelling and syntax though, they are ruthless. :D

Thanks Rotifer, I've all of the links you have suggested.

I visited them regularly, but generally enter them through Drudge Report, but they are worthly to be linked to, thanks for that!

Those are indeed all gems.

Don't forget ShortNews (http://www.shortnews.com).

They usually have some really good gems...
Try looking under Soft News then sorting by most popular or most hits...

Ahh yes, you're correct Studio, found Shortnews through a java banner on FOSI's site about a year ago!, thanks, it's been added!

Thanks Zutroy

Slashdot I have in trillian, as well as Shacknews, and news.com but they do need to be added, and again, all of those are gems and are worth checking out regularly, all your guy's posts have been what I've been looking for and will keep the page (As I add to it) in the location it can be viewed (I update it each time someone posts a new link), adding those Zutroy, thank you!

Added all of them, active win, and neowin, and most of these I've visited, didn't take the time to bookmark, or record into a site so it's really nice to have contact with so many people from so many different places as crazy about news sites as I am.

I know about that, but I'm looking for "Gems", and why they are gems.

Over the last 6 years I've gathered links several times, and some just fall off the list due to a refocus, or a change that caused them to fall off, looking for the latest and the greatest and why you think so.

I've added all of them that has been posted because I remember visiting them and didn't add them for the reason I stated above (Busy, or lazy) but now I am interested in updating this for good.

Yeah I understand. There's quite a few really good gems out there. I think I've given you nearly all my good ones. I'll check out my bookmarks when I get home from work.

Oooh, remembered another one:

www.aint-it-cool-news.com -- movie rumors, news, and reviews
