It could be anywhere between 8 and 72 hours. I have had a few only take 8 hours and 1 that took 3 days. It will not be the same for everyone visiting your site, some will be able to get to it long before others. It depends on when the providers update their DNS.

Of course many hosts are kind enough to leave your site up on the old server whilst it transfers so therefore technically you don't have any downtime.

It will depend on how big is your site and how much time does it take to upload all your files. At least 2 hours your site will be down.

This is what I thougt there woudn't be no down time since some users will visit old site and some will visit new site.

am I right or still any down time?

Thanks

Keep both sites up for atleast a week and that should minimize downtime. Theoretically, you can move it with no downtime.

Not sure how people are coming up with "at least 2 hours" or "8-72 hours"...

It depends how the move is conducted.
