I have a server parked on my cable modem at home primarily as an FTP
server to move data back and forth from my home office to the main
office in the city.
I have a dynamically allocated IP from my cable company. but it has
not changed in months. But I noticed that about 6 months ago it was
a different number. So it does and can change.
My problem is I don't want to have to send out new emails to everyone
that uses the server every time the number changes.
So I was thinking of using dns2go. My understanding is that if you go
through them you have the ability to reassign your IP address on the
fly.
Here are a few questions.
Can you still have your own domains setup on the server?
Or are you locked in to having a domain with dns2go as the domain
name?
Thanks,
Rick

Last time I used it (VERY) long time ago, you could use a top-level domain..

admin2, do you even know what dns2go is?
rickmmrr, if you want to use your own domain name with dns2go, have your domain point to your dns2go address.

2 Things.
1. I want to be able to give my company one FTP Host Address
like "ftp.thedomain.com" and no matter what IP address the cable company gives me "ftp.thedomain.com" will still work.
2. I also want to host my wife's and my very low trafic domains
on the same server at home.
I was worried that if I go through dns2go it would lock me into having just one domain name on my home server.
As I'm typing this I think I just figured out the answer.
For every domain name I want directed to my home server I have to have a listing at dns2go.
Is that correct?

Umm, no. You can only use 1 single domain with dns2go as far as i know.
What you can do is, create multiple subdirectories for the sites.
And point those respective domains to those directories via your dns2go address.

You can transfer a domain to them or have yourname.dns2go.com etc and that automatically determines your ip address, so you should have no problems with that.

If you aren't locked into dns2go, there's always ZoneEdit.com. They are well known for this sort of thing, and i am pretty sure they can do all you are looking for.
For free too. :D

Wildcard got it in one.
I have a domain setup with Zoneedit. You can have upto 5 free domains with it. They also list the recommended clients to update your IP with their servers.

That ZoneEdit seems like the ticket.
I noticed dns2go loads in my browser very slow, also it cost money.
ZoneEdit was fast and it's free up to 5 domains
Thanks everyone you have been a great help.
