View Full Version : Virtualis? From a newbie....

Hi,

I am a complete newbie about web-hosting so forgive me for sounding like one... :)

I am looking for a web host for a small business that hopefully will expand in the future. I have read really good reviews of virtualis, but I'm a little suspicious of those reviews because they offer a fantastic affiliate program and I sometimes think that that fact is influencing the review! They seem to be more expensive than others and only offer 25 mb for the starter price (which is in the price range that I'm looking for). I would love to join them and recommend them too as an affiliate but will not do it if they are NOT all what they say they are! Does anybody have any experience with them? My web page might attract webmasters and I would not mind earning an extra buck recommending my host.

Thanks for your help,

Suz

I heard lots of bad things about them quite some time ago. Not sure about now thou.

If the reviews you read is from Web Host Directory sites, you better don't trust them completely. They might be paid to write so...

Just my 20 cents, wish you luck. :)

Have a nice day...

I have a Web designer friend who hosts one of her sites there and she says "no complaints." They've always been one of the most expensive mainstream hosts; for a long time, their starter package was $36 a month! I see now they've stuck in a $19.95 package which--with only 25 megs disk space and 3 gigs transfer--is still on the high side.

Stay away. They have a better-than-deserved reputation because people can sell their services without actually having a website there -- that's the way their affiliate program works. Those affiliates then post glowing reviews and include links to their own affiliate page so they get the commission if you sign up. I have yet to see a positive report posted on an online forum by someone who wasn't enrolled in their affiliate program.

I lasted with them for one whole month. They are chronically understaffed. See the last link in my signature for more information. You can do better, and for less money.

Precisely. You don't sound like a newbie at all!

As has been said, I don't remember ever seeing a positive review of virtualis that didn't include a link to an affiliate page. Take those with a grain of salt. As Deb said, you can do better for less; I'd also add that you can find better hosts, for less, and with affiliate programs from which you can earn that "extra buck" as well.

FYI.

Most of these sites represent themselves as objective sources but they are far from it.

Positioning, placement, and review are often determined by how much you are willing to spend on the site.

They appear to be legitimate because they include so many hosts in their databases but they need these hosts to mask their true purpose.

This is from personal experience in dealing with these groups and there are a lot of them.

For example, look at http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=7532

The best sources of info are chat forums like this.

Caveat emptor as they say!

I tell you what, if you've ever been to http://www.drudgereport.com/ and seen how fast that site loads, they must be doing something right. They claim to be hosted by Virtualis.

That does not make them a good host, of course. It's impressive, though!
