I don't see this one and I'm trying to find the right answer. Does anyone know for sure if your keyword needs to be in your domain name to help you in searches? I don't follow but I am not sure of the name I want to use yet.

Does anyone know for sure? IMO:
1. No, your key word does not have to be in your domain name to help you become rich if you have tons of OPM (other people's money) to advertise and buy hundreds of high PR one way back links like amazon and ebay did (no key words in their domain names - very few people search for amazons and almost nobody ever searched for ebays before there was one.
2. Yes, your key word should be in your domain name because the search engines have been programmed to reward it for being there and domain buyers are still paying lots of money for what they believe are the best key word domain names too.
3. Nowadays you can buy a new (just examples here) widget.biz or a widget.cc or a widget.net and the search engines will see them as being equally as important as a brand new widget.com.
(The operative concept here being widgets and not the .com or the .biz or the .cc part because those designations are almost completely irrelevant to a new website's success or failure)

No, it doesn't need to be there, but it sure helps.

Well even that people say keywords help if they are part of the domain name, I wouls say that it is much better to have a web address that features your brand then the keywords related to your business. Take a look at GoDaddy, FatCow, The Planet, and many other in hosting business. Their name do not refer to web hosting, which didn't harm their high rank in search phrases and keywords related to their business.

As Steve mentioned, it does not need to be there, but it would seem to help. There is anecdotal evidence that Google prioritizes those listings a little bit (as far as I know, though, not beyond anecdotal).
