View Full Version : What's the best Control Panel?
tdog89 01-17-2009, 02:45 PM Hello, I am with Trower Hosting Service's (owner) I am starting my business, well it is already started I am just advertising and getting more customer/clients than i have already. I am wondering what would be the best control panel to control my customer's as in i run virtual private server's, and dedicated server's from a colocated data center. Well with the vps i already have a control panel because i have virtuozzo for them. But for the dedicated server's i would like to have something similer to theplant control panel. If anyone has every purchased there product orbit.theplanet.com control panel is pretty simple and well built i thank. I understand they may of developed it them selves but i am looking for something similer, and low on cost. My vps are take care of with virtuozzo. I use windows software for the dedicated server's. I am working on putting a linux server in. I have tested webmin on my (home) linux box and liked it but I was wondering if there was anymore.
Andrew_H 01-17-2009, 03:00 PM HyperVM + WHMCS + DirectAdmin will be greate choice. Google it for more informations. Good luck!
inprogrammer2008 01-18-2009, 10:50 AM Direct admin is good control panel you can use clientexec also for managing clients and other billing related issues
marcbarak 01-18-2009, 11:16 AM we have tried many but seem to find cpanel the best to use for our needs and the best to offer our clients
rrdns 01-21-2009, 05:57 AM Since you are using windows servers Plesk could be idle option.
Otherwise in case of the Linux server Cpanel will be idle for you.
mafitsi 01-21-2009, 06:14 AM +1 for cPanel on LINUX platform.
HivelocityDD 01-21-2009, 09:08 AM For linux - Cpanel
For windows - Plesk
and for VPS - HyperVM
I like the thing this way.
id say cpanel for linux direct admin seem to take ages to sort vps licences out
Exoware 01-22-2009, 10:46 PM HyperVM + WHMCS + DirectAdmin will be greate choice. Google it for more informations. Good luck!
Absolutely spot on. They're all brilliant.

What about http://www.ehcp.net ?? I thank they are pretty cool.
Exoware 01-22-2009, 11:02 PM If you want your business to succeed, you'll go for Directadmin or cPanel.

Well i plan on using Cpanel and also clientexec. I sale Dedicated Servers, Virtual Private servers, and Web host. Dedicated servers i am basicly a reseller. The virtual thats all mine and web hosting is also all mine.
WHMCS is the easiest we have found by far to integrate with cpanel and even WHMReseller. It is kept well updated and there are no security flaws that we know about.
Hope you find the panel you need!
CandyMan 01-23-2009, 08:12 AM Plesk is so stylish... :) Has some cool features in the latest version as well, like billing etc...
trustworthy 01-23-2009, 03:31 PM Have been using Hosting Controller which supports both managing Windows and Linux Hosting.
engineerroy 01-25-2009, 04:11 AM HyperVM + WHMCS + DirectAdmin will be greate choice. Google it for more informations. Good luck!
DA license in this case will cost at $5 a month minimum, if you want to reduce this try with LXadmin instead of DA but you need to support your users for using that panel, its cool and have lots of features
UsefulPC 01-25-2009, 04:23 PM Hi tdog89,
IMO HyperVM, cPanel and WHMCS together would be an excellent solution.

For unfriendlinesses and easy administration Cpanel is the best and there is no control panel in the market to beat it.
For stability, Plesk would be the best choice. Plesk is also the best choice on Windows platform.
Cpanel and plesk are the best in the market. Both of them have their own share of positives and negatives.
simra 01-28-2009, 07:43 PM For windows servers i would recommend Hosting Controller. I have been using them for 4 years without any issues.
QuickTech 01-28-2009, 07:47 PM It depends on the OS and the application...
but for Linux cPanel and Windows anything but Plesk.
JohnJ 01-28-2009, 08:02 PM Definitely cPanel.
Rageki-John 01-29-2009, 02:34 AM I would highly recommend DirectAdmin. It's cheap and not heavy on resources.
Please can someone tell me more about HyperVM?
Does it just manage external VPS and Servers or does it allow you to create VPS areas on your own Dedicated server allong side cpanels and whm's accounts?

ramnet 01-30-2009, 10:14 PM The best control panel is one you create yourself :)
Unfortunately, not everyone has the time, skills, or capital to do this :(
The biggest and most successful web hosts make their own control panels.
Exoware 01-30-2009, 11:09 PM I doubt those hosts started out with their own control panel.
ramnet 01-31-2009, 12:55 AM I doubt those hosts started out with their own control panel.
Well, that's what I did - although it took 2 years of development and testing (developed it on weekends).
If you are a owner who knows how (and likes) to program then it's not a bad idea to just make your own, provided you have the time and are serious.
Exoware 01-31-2009, 12:55 AM Perhaps I should've said, "I doubt most...". :)

Do you make your control panel available to other webmasters, what do you call it.................

saadsalman 01-31-2009, 06:25 PM Linux + Apache + cPanel + Fantastico + WHMCS!
AquariusStorage 01-31-2009, 06:28 PM cPanel because I say :). But honestly, cPanel is a great one and you really can't go wrong. Direct Admin is also great too and. Either are perfect for a production server, however cPanel is much more widely used.
ForumSale2000 02-02-2009, 03:38 AM For linux - Cpanel
Bingo! The best thing about it is that the majority of hosts use it. You can easily just backup your data and restore it on another host.
PoojaS 02-02-2009, 04:03 AM cPanel is user friendly and it's easy to manage domains in cPanel.
WHMCS is billing software which is totally different from cPanel.
teachforjune-Scott 02-02-2009, 09:54 AM Bingo! The best thing about it is that the majority of hosts use it. You can easily just backup your data and restore it on another host.
You can also restore cPanel backups with other panels and many other panels are just as easy as cPanel, if not more so.
Unless you have had experience with more than cPanel, it's hard for you to make an honest evaluation.
digital_sc4rz 02-02-2009, 10:23 AM I run linux and love my plesk ! :D so +1 for plesk from me

Very true. Its user friendly and data migration "To and From" cpanel is very easy compared to other hosting panels. Another benefit is that there are large System Admin workforce who have in depth knowledge and skills in Cpanel.
