View Full Version : Reseller Tips/Packages/Prices for our clients

We have added Hosting to our array of solutions to our clients, but we have struggled in attracting just Hosting clients. I would like to have suggestions on packages/pricing that we could utilize to help drive these results. It seems like most big hosts have went to Unlimited packages, but reading all the Pro Vs. Con posts on this topic, it seems to be arguably an integrity issue, which we would like to avoid, but then how do we stay competitive? Without using Unlimited accounts, how do we close the sale on limited packages when companies offer unlimited? We have overselling enabled so we could potential do unlimited but I'm scared of someone using all the resources and having extra fees on my end, system crashes etc. Our reselling act uses WHM/WHMCS and that works very well for our team. We have currently 300gb Data Transfer and 30gb Diskspace available to us. 1000GB/100Disk is only $20 more per month so if we do get a lot of bandwidth we can upgrade fairly cheaply. Please help, this forum seems to be very good, so we appreciate any feedback we can receive.

Unlimtied is just an over sell in my opinion - if you read the fine prints you will often see something like you can not use more than a certain percentage of the server resources, which does not make sense!

I say pay the extra money for more space and bandwidth, then offer unlimited hosting. Make sure you have a solid TOS in place and you shouldn't have a problem. Everyone who says Unlimited isn't real just hasn't received the benefits(income) from offering it. There is a reason why the major web hosting companies offer unlimited hosting.

They will allow upgrade whenever so there is no needed to upgrade early just to be able to offer unlimited. The issue is if it's a good idea or not to offer it now. It's just a tough choice, and with all the extra monitoring needed to enforce the TOS, but with out Unlimited how do we get customers? I really appreciate all the suggestions keep them coming please.

I Just wrote this on another thread and I am writing it here again. Many people have suggested well drafted TOS with Unlimited and issues with fine prints. Here is what they mean.
The storage offered is misleading. Even in today's world with so much media traffic very few actually need large storage for files on webserver beyond 1 GB. Most of the space is consumed by emails and database. However, if you look closely all bigger hosts have limits on these (emails & databases).
For example, sometime ago I was looking for a windows package with more than 300 MB MS SQL space. I had a client I could not serve myself, who was using dotNuke on his site. Guess what, even with 5-8 page site dotNuke database was using over 300 MB space. None of these unlimited hosts had anything over 200 MB MS SQL storage even though the package itself provided unlimited storage. Similar limits were there on emails.
So if you wish to compete against these companies with no conscience, all you have to do is mention the limits somewhere properly. Popular places include finer prints in package details or SLA agreements including TOS and AUP.

It all depends on who your target market it, and don't say everyone who needs hosting! Figure that part out first, then look for similar hosting companies and then base your pricing on that so long as it makes sense for your operation.
Highlight things that you excel on, such as providing personalized support, no overselling, how great your hosting platform is -- small things that make a big difference.
