I am new to hosting. trustedurl.com 01-15-2009, 07:59 PM Work out a business plan first, then do the numbers and see if it makes sense to your situation. And yes, do pick a host that works well for you, don't solely go for price. But a reseller account is a great way to start. Major League 01-15-2009, 08:11 PM Hey Greg! Reselling is a great way to enter the web hosting industry and you can upgrade up to a VPS on an as-needed basis. If you start off right by using good marketing strategies, plans, promos, etc. You should be off to a great start! IGreGzI 01-15-2009, 08:15 PM Hey TG! Look at the best web host provider! Yea I am currently using your reseller package and its great. Thanks guys. plantohost 01-15-2009, 08:16 PM Reseller is a good option to start, particularly if you do not wish to manage the server by yourself. Please do consider about the end-user support, which is not provided by many reseller providers. IGreGzI 01-15-2009, 08:40 PM Thanks I will be looking forward into all of this. Rageki-John 01-15-2009, 08:42 PM If you are just starting and have never done this before, then reseller is definitely the best way to go. It's a cheap method to start and there isn't much to lose with using resellers. However, it would not be recommended to start with a dedicated server if you have no experience whatsoever. Most dedicated servers come unmanaged so you would have to install your own security system. However, if you get a managed server, someone is always taking care of your server for you but it's not cheap to get a managed server. Also, if you require a billing system I would recommend WHMCS. It's not too expensive and has all the right tools for a web hosting company. MV-Justin 01-15-2009, 08:44 PM WHMCS has been a good billing system. Have used it for many GSP websites. Good luck with the web hosting provider! CyberWorldHosting 01-15-2009, 08:44 PM Research everything about web hosting and business in general. WHT is a great place for all you questions. Best of luck MarkW78 01-15-2009, 10:22 PM I would agree that starting as a reseller is the best route. That is how I started my business almost 10 years ago. If you start as a reseller, you can focus your time, money, and energy into your business plan and marketing. This way you build your business and get to know your customers and their real needs before you invest in buying or leasing equipment. I know of a few hosts who use a blended approach. They will own or lease their own Linux equipment and will resell Windows or VPS hosting. This is a low-risk way to experiment in new markets. No matter which direction you go, make sure you do not select your suppliers based on cost alone. Cost will always be a factor, but often when a deal seems to good to be true, it is. railto 01-16-2009, 01:43 AM Start out with a good reseller account with a host close to your target location, also stay away from WHMCS, it is bug ridden and appears to be developed by a single person, i would also stay away from modernbill and clientexec, the only stable, reliable billing system that i have found is AWBS (http://www.awbs.com), check them out and best of luck Rageki-John 01-16-2009, 02:02 AM Start out with a good reseller account with a host close to your target location, also stay away from WHMCS, it is bug ridden and appears to be developed by a single person, i would also stay away from modernbill and clientexec, the only stable, reliable billing system that i have found is AWBS (http://www.awbs.com), check them out and best of luck What exactly are these bugs with WHMCS? I've been using it for a year and I haven't been able to find any issues with the system. IMeanWebHosting 01-16-2009, 03:06 AM Same here, I've not noticed any "bugs" gimpson 01-16-2009, 05:05 AM Using a reseller is the best option for any new web hosting company. The key is to find a master reseller that can create reseller accounts under it. You must also find a reliable host with minimal downtime and usage. Do not fall in the category of Unlimited Resellers. Btw... AWBS is terrible in my opinion. If you recommend it over WHMcs, get real. JesseB 01-16-2009, 07:14 AM I think a standard reseller should do to start you off i mean you can always upgrade later Major League 01-17-2009, 01:05 AM Yea. I would definitley recommend WHMcs to start off. I just looked at AWBS and it looks terrible. If you choose a billing system choose WHMcs or Clientexec. JesseB 01-31-2009, 06:36 PM If your starting off clientexec may be a cheaper option i use clientexec i find it good but Whmcs is abit more easy rrdns 02-01-2009, 09:29 AM Yes exactly starting with the reseller hosting is the best way to make your feet get stuck in the web hosting business for the newbie. ashok854 02-01-2009, 03:13 PM go with resellerclub.com. here you will get all in one integrated solution - billing, resellerchain, automated provisioning etc... -A |
