There is this one domain name that I would like to get, but someone already has his hands on it. However, his 'ownership' of the domain had expired on March 6, 2001. I am just wondering how long it will take for me to have the chance to register for the domain name?
For your information, the domain name is http://www.charmainesheh.com. Thanks.

i think there's a 60day grace period after the domain's been expired...

I think its just luck of the draw, so to speak...Im still seeing some domain names that expired in Jan/Feb
and they still are *not* available.
If you search you will come accross the exact rules. I found them once but can't find them again. After it expires there are so many weeks the original owner can renew. If they don't others can register it.
if you do a quick search on the net you'll turn up a lot of horror stories about expired domain names (ok it's no secret that i reaaaally don't like network solutions *grin*).
The short answer is, don't hold your breath for the name to turn up on the open market. I have seen stories posted on the net about domain names expired in 95 or 96 which are still being clutched tightly in netsol's grubby little hands....
hmm, i'd better stop now or i'll start spouting steam from my ears again. Their crappy service is one of my pet gripes :) [i once spent more than 45 minutes on hold on the phone trying to get through to netsol to resolve a domain name problem for some people i was helping out. never did get a human in the end, only endless muzak. hung up in disgust in the end :( ]

I live in the west coast. In order to reach a human on the phone, I had to get up around 4 am. I still remember the scare they gave me when they deactivated a few of my paid domains. The matter took me three weeks to resolve. My last phone call with them lasted over an hour.

Thanks for the help. I guess I will just have to wait out (if I can wait this long) until the domain gets 'free'.

I'll echo the "don't hold your breath" advice. An increasing number of registrars are hanging on to expired domain names, even charging a premium for those deemed more desirable, as if they had some inherent claim to them. It is yet another example of how ICANN has been inept and unreponsive to the needs of the Internet.
