View Full Version : cPanel/WHM licensing
Gotti 01-13-2009, 12:04 PM We have 3 dedicated servers up and running in a data centre. We're looking to install cPanel/WHM on them.
What is the upside to installing a license that wasn't bought directly via cPanel.net? Buying directly from them, licenses cost around 35$/mo, plus theres a volume price decrease (it starts at the second license with a -10%).
I'm yet to find a vendor that sells licenses for under $35/mo; the only upside seems to be, that you can pay on monthly basis, which you can't with cPanel, unless u buy bulk.
Am I missing something?
Thank you,
Gotti 01-13-2009, 12:15 PM Ok, I found ONE vendor that's cheaper:
http://flexihostings.co.uk/cPanel_License.html
but again; yearly price...
XH-manojR 01-13-2009, 12:18 PM Wouldnt your DC help you with this. I am sure they would have licenese in bulk and you could get them cheaper that way .
Have you try contacting your DC?
eth00 01-13-2009, 03:54 PM I seem to remember us having to buy quiet a few licenses before you can qualify for the monthly pricing with cPanel. Before that you need to purchase yearly if you go direct to cPanel.
The reason for the cost difference is if you sell external licenses you do bear some responsibility in supporting them.

Yeah; our DC isn't a cpanel distributer :(. Thnx for your input tho.

Yes, but it's insane. If you buy a SSL certificate its cheaper from a vendor than directly, heck if you buy a hotel room, it's better to book via a vendor than directly.
Why would anyone NOT buy from cPanel.net, since it's the cheapest anyway?
DigitalLinx 01-13-2009, 05:09 PM You must buy either 25 yearly dedicated cpanel licenses or 75 yearly VPS licenses in order to get internal licenses, after that you pay as you sell monthly at discounted prices.
Lease more than 25 licenses (or 75 VPS licenses) directly from cPanel
If you are looking to rent/lease more than 25 dedicated server licenses or 75 VPS licenses, you can contact us about becoming a cPanel partner. Please contact us here (https://tickets.cpanel.net/submit/index.cgi?reqtype=cs) if you are interested in becoming a partner

Yeah, I understand that; but their discounts begin at the second license. So by the time you hit 25 you're getting them cheap as it is. My question really was, why bother buying it via a vendor. They're cheaper as it is directly from cpanel.net, they give you discounts soon enough and if your business grows enough and you get up to 25 servers, you can end up becoming a cpanel vendor yourself.
Hannan 01-13-2009, 05:22 PM These two sites seems to have good price:

instantcpanellicense.com - $38/mo
cpaneldirect.net - $36/mo
cpanel.net is still $35.4/mo :(

You have to maintain 10 active licenses at all times to get on the cPanel direct buy.
engineerroy 01-25-2009, 03:58 AM Cpanel direct buy wont work out for users, its good for DC and resellers of servers, try with your DC some companies are even offering at $25 a month with fantastico or try alternate panels like Direct admin
ericgregory 01-26-2009, 04:16 PM The cPanel agreement states that you must have a *minimum* of 25 dedicated server licenses to maintain partner status and continue to be able to resell cPanel licenses. As far as VPS/Virtuozzo based licenses go, the minimum number of licenses is 75.
If anyone has any questions about our partner program please e-mail sales@cpanel.net and we'll help you out.
Thanks

The best place to find the cheapest licenses are either at the cPanel Distributor page: http://www.cpanel.net/partners/partner-lookup.cgi?showall=1&distonly=1
Or directly through a google search for "cpanel license"
Remember to check the status of a distributor to make sure they are authorized by cPanel to sell and support licenses.
