Our software development company has previously only written and supported Linux-based applications, but we're looking to move into the Windows realm as well.
We need quite a bit of control over the server via some control panel. We also need access to multiple MSSQL databases and the ability to create/destroy them via the web (we don't need a terrible amount of space for the databases, though); we will only be using the DB for testing/demoing software projects. We also need .NET support, preferably 3.5 but 2.0 at a minimum.
We are long-time users of Dreamhost, so something similar but with Windows servers would be perfect.

I highly recommend CrystalTech for windows hosting. If you're going to be doing development CrystalTech (when I was with them) had some development plans.

Hello,
What is your budget, and what type of Windows hosting services (shared, vps, dedicated) you are looking for?
Regards

Budget is not really an issue that's why I didn't mention it in my original post as long as the other requirements are met. I think a shared plan would be good as long as I have enough control over it.

Hi
for ASP.net 2.0 - 3.5 I personally would suggest looking at Windows 2008 Hosting, as that comes with the ASP.net versions you require as standard. Most likely allot of windows 2003 hosting companies will have 3.5 installed as it is available as a free download from MS.
SQL, again this should be fine to create seperate DBs and Users. I know both Helm control panel and DotNetPanel will allow you to do what you require.
If you have any other general windows hosting questions, do let me know and I will do my best to reply.

We need quite a bit of control over the server via some control panel.
As Chris mentioned, DotNetPanel is the way to go as it'll give you maximum control over the server.
We also need access to multiple MSSQL databases and the ability to create/destroy them via the web (we don't need a terrible amount of space for the databases, though); we will only be using the DB for testing/demoing software projects.
This will be available in DotNetPanel - which also provides ability to backup/restore/truncate the databases from within it.
We also need .NET support, preferably 3.5 but 2.0 at a minimum.
This should be available as a standard with all the hosts now. I'd also recommend you to consider Windows 2008/IIS 7 hosting environment as it has some major changes in design and is known to provide better performance.
Most generally you will find Windows hosting to be little expensive when compared to Linux hosting as there are various licensing costs attached to it. If possible, you should consider signing up with a host who offers money back guarantee so that you can assess the server performance/features within a stipulated period w/o the risk of losing money. You can browse through the Shared Hosting Offers section Here (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?f=4) for deals on hosting.
Good luck!

CrystalTech and DiscountASP are actually recommended by many. If you're looking to develop and really "work" with a hosting company you may want to look at a smaller company (but still somewhat established). If you do go in that direction you may want to consider this web hosting (http://www.reliablesite.net/v3/shared.asp).
Thank you for the recommendation. As a host that focuses on Microsoft ASP.NET web hosting services, we take pride in our ability to work closely with our customers and build relationships with them. This is why we have the DiscountASP.NET community forum as well 24/7 customer support.

DO NOT go with reliablesite. They are cheaters. They have taken my money and are threatening me. They told me that they will delete my account if I speak anything or submit them ticket. The servers are very very slow and BS. I posted about them earlier at

Can you suggest another hosting company? I am thinking of ultimahost. How are they? Any other recommendations?

This person has been claiming this without any proof whatsoever, I have no idea who you are as you refuse to reveal any information about yourself that issues can be resolved. We have always worked with our customers to provide them the best service possible. Every post from you here seems to be anti-us without any sort of willingness to even try to improve your service.
We have no reason to threaten you in anyway. It appears you're still using our hosting from what the mods on WHT told us, so I have no idea how we're "cheating you".
When you can provide me with ticket numbers in our system I'll be glad to work with you. We don't delete tickets, chat conversation, etc. Everything is logged in our system.
