View Full Version : I LOST MY MIND, HElP mE!!!!
davidb 09-17-2002, 01:48 AM ok, I come home on my lunch break and cant find my remote control for digital cable. I do a quick search then just resort to just not watching tv. I then come home and search for 30 min, no luck. Later I search a little more before football comes on. No luck. At the end of football, I start taking darastic action. I move everything I have to one side of the room. I go through all the dirty cloths. I move my bed. I GO THROUGH THE GARBAGE. no luck. I even checked my car, bathroom and kitchen. Hell, I even checked the room I never go into. This is not a big place. Also here is the kicker. I know where I had it last. Everynight I fall asleep to the tv, right when I get really tired I turn it off and fall asleep. Last night was no different, more or less. I turn it off, and go to bed. At this point the remote is right by me. Then in the middle of the night I wake up feeling sick a few times in about a two hour period. There are only 3 options I think of:
1. While sick I slept walked and put it somewhere outside of my apartment
2. I ate it while sleeping causing me to become sick.
3. Someone stole it from my apartment, which I have to say is about the stupidest thing I can think of since my routers, switches, computers, monitor, tv, and vcr are still here.
HOW DOES THIS JUST GET LOST.
MCHost-Marc 09-17-2002, 01:50 AM Did you check besides your computer? :D
Andrew 09-17-2002, 01:54 AM Man...why haven't they made some kind of homing device for remotes? Like the 'page' button for the cordless phone. It would be so awesome to be able to go to the cable box and push a button and have the remote beep so you could find it.
Think of the needless frustration that could be saved by implementing such a simple feature...
davidb 09-17-2002, 01:54 AM I checked under my computer
anon-e-mouse 09-17-2002, 01:55 AM Did you look in the fridge?
Where did you go when you were feeling sick? Maybe flushed it down the loo?
davidb 09-17-2002, 01:58 AM The frige and the freezer....twice. I dont think it would of flused :(
CubeXHosting 09-17-2002, 01:59 AM Maybe........buy another remote? ;)
davidb 09-17-2002, 02:01 AM like hell I will. This is the cable companies digital remote, replacement is 80 bucks
KShoK 09-17-2002, 02:01 AM First have a nice sleep and then try to search some other thing which was lost earlier.
Akash 09-17-2002, 02:05 AM Homer (through the loud speaker): "Bart! Do you know where the remote is?!?"
Bart: "Did you check your pocket?!?"
Homer (through the loud speaker): "Oh! I -"
Homer (to marge and lisa): "I found it. It was in my pocket - hehe."
CubeXHosting 09-17-2002, 02:05 AM *holds remote behind back, giggling at davidb's suffering*
Hehe, ok thats harsh, couldn't help myself! :D
davidb 09-17-2002, 02:06 AM I cant sleep. You have no idea how confusing this is. One night I have it, the next day it disapeared. Its bugging me too much
CubeXHosting 09-17-2002, 02:08 AM WHT: The one and only forum you come to to see people freak out over losing their remotes :D
davidb 09-17-2002, 02:14 AM grr, im going to bed and will dream about beating cube up. If I dont get off now I never will

Why don't they make homing devices on everything? I can't tell you how many times I've put something down and 'lost it' for days. Drives one nuts. As David says, you can tip the whole room upside down and never find it... until later. At that point you want to rip a few buttons off it to teach the bugger a lesson NEVER to do that again! Or you might want to smash another remote with a hammer in front of it so it knows that YOU are the one in control, and IT is at your mercy.
Muh-hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

LOL...I wish they would...can't tell you how many times a day I'm saved by the fact that my cordless phone has it. This is the kind of stuff they need to work on instead of trying to get refrigerators to surf the web! :D

BRING IT ON *strips clothes...puts back on when people look at him strangely*
Ultravox 09-17-2002, 04:21 AM Now he should buy another one.
You checked under the bed. Between the bed AND wall.
Reptilian Feline 09-17-2002, 05:28 AM Falls alseep... get up to be sick... again... again... wakes up... remote missing...
OK... look under your pillows, under your bed, under the sofa, in your slippers, under the sink in the bathroom, under the bathtub/shower, in the glass-cupboard (drinking a glass of water when sick), between the bed/sofa and the wall,...
Tell me, did you find it?
jeellison 09-17-2002, 05:48 AM OK, so this happens to me all the time. I lose something, go completely mad because I cannot find it although I had it seconds earlier. I turn the place upside down looking for it and then a couple of hours later, when I have given up looking for it, there it is, lay in the exact place where I was sat/stood/lay originally.
Unbelivable........
Regards
I know how distressed you must be loosing your remote. Its a very hard thing to go through, especially us cable enabled folks. I normally have the remote in hand, even if im not watching tv. Lucky we got 2 cable boxes in the house, so if I misplace it, I run upstares and steal the other.
filburt1 09-17-2002, 06:57 AM Look in your hand. :)
Studio64 09-17-2002, 07:12 AM One of my friends my freshman year constantly lost the remote to his TV. This is a dorm room. If you stood in the middle of the room and took 10 steps in either direction you'd hit something. And yes, one day he did find his remote in the fridge. I also have left my cell phone in the fridge. The reason for both of these beer. You have a smoke in one hand and cell phone or remote in the other. Go and get a beer and put down the object in the fridge to grab hold of the beer then turn around and just shut the door and forget about it.
My friends solution to this problem was to go on Ebay and buy one of these (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=713950483) and duct tape it to the phone. You just whistle and it beeps and blinks until you grab it. Problem? In a dorm room everything ends up floor. Eventually he stepped on the little beeping thing enough times that it stopped working.
The eventual solution that he came up w/ that works to this day. A piece of string duct taped to the remote. The other end of the string tied to the leg of the of the couch. It never fails.
You lose the remote. You tug on the string (it's about a 6 foot long string :D) and the remote bounds out of the pile of clothes conceling it :D...
Probably not a viable solution for real people living in real houses but, it works 100% of the time :D...
Ultravox 09-17-2002, 07:15 AM Hey!!! got it. It must be with Studio64

I swear I don't have it :D
Sheesh!
I understand about not being able to find something. My mind simply won't rest until I do, even if I didn't need it, but simply remembered I own it, and I want to know where it is.
however, when it comes to the remote, I never lose mine (covered in dust on the shelf over my bed) because I don't use it. I push the little button on the TV when I want to watch it. I watch the same channel every night, and it has a timer so it turns off at 1am or so.
KShoK 09-17-2002, 08:45 AM Forget that remote. I am going to have 2 mugs of beer now
davidb 09-17-2002, 09:03 AM I checked all those places. I was hoping that when I woke up, it would magically apear in my hand, no such luck. The thing is, it wasent in any common place, generally the culprit is my recliner, and I turned that thing inside out. You know, I just dont have a lot of places to loose it in. The furniture I have it not much. I have
a. computer chair
b. recliner
c. aerobed
Reptilian Feline 09-17-2002, 09:38 AM I don't know what your place looks like, but maybe you moved the remote when you moved everything to one side when you searched for it.
Have you checked ALL the cupboards and book-shelves and drawers?
What might have happened as well is that when you went up during the night you accidentaly stepped on it, and either kicked it out of the way or put it somewhere, and because you were so sleepy, you don't remember you did it anymore. I used to put on the bed-lamp and not remember doing it in the morning, so it's not impossible.
If you start searching for it again, don't move all the stuff in one go, take a portion at a time. Check under and behind. Lift cousions.
I'm not so sure what an aerobed is, but push your hand down in any crevices. Remotes can dissapere in the smallest places.
davidb 09-17-2002, 09:46 AM didnt happen, there are only two things it could go under(and it would barely fit) the desk(checked) and the fridge(checked). When I moved everything, I did it one thing at a time. Everytime I lifted a peaice of clothing I would shake it out to make sure nothing was there. I moved everything seperatelly.
An areobed is an inflatible one. Just sits in the center of my room, I checked it, nothing there.

I feel your pain. I always seem to lose my watch once in a while too. :(
Reptilian Feline 09-17-2002, 09:56 AM Then I don't know what else you can do.:(
Exept, maybe... try again tomorrow with a fresh mind, and ask some friends over for a "treasure hunt".
Chicken 09-17-2002, 10:08 AM Question: Do you have small wild monkeys roaming freely about? If not well then I'm fresh out of suggestions.
Should we tell davidb that the forum decided to play a practical joke on him and we all slipped into his house when he was sleeping and snagged it, just so he would post this story of how he 'lost it' and we could all snicker at his pain? Nahhhhh... Shhhh
davidb 09-17-2002, 10:21 AM IM SO ALONE, chicken you are so mean ::Cries::
and to think, all those times I bad mouthed you behind your back...I mean, said kind things....
eh, I am ready to go home at lunch and start again. I just hope I can find it.
Chachi 09-17-2002, 10:50 AM You could use the situation to your advantage, and actually get up from the seat and manually change channels etc..... :D Think of all the calories you can burn off this way
davidb 09-17-2002, 11:02 AM I hate changing digital cable channels. Its got a delay between changing them. I have to go like 60 channels just to get to the movies, then if theres nothing on. If it was a regular tv, I would have no problem with it, plus the channels are much closer together there anyway.
CubeXHosting 09-17-2002, 12:02 PM erm, david, you forgot about me....you know, the guy who's been waiting about 12 hours to fight ya.....brrr its cold *puts jacket on, remote falls out*
Ultravox 09-17-2002, 12:31 PM daividb,
Just check your undies.
davidb 09-17-2002, 03:22 PM Well, I have given up. I guess Ill prob find it when I start packing next week. At any rate, thanks for the suggestions, even though it dosent put a remote in hand. There goes 80 bucks. :bawling:
XTStrike 09-17-2002, 04:01 PM you tried in the pillow cases? or inside your quilt cover, you may say its strange but stranger things have happened.
also check the entire route to the bathroom and the kitchen.
Studio64 09-17-2002, 04:04 PM I did this, this morning (weird sounding sentence)...
After watching the morning news I grabbed my work and walked out to the car. Threw it all on the passenger seat and drove off.
I took my remote w/ me and it's now sitting in my car. My roomates gonna be wigged out when he can't find it when he gets home...
Search the car :D
davidb 09-17-2002, 04:37 PM I checked all those places :(
I just wish there is some place someone could say, and I would respond, oh I didnt check there, then I go home and find it

Your pockets? I did that once, had to grab something with both hands while holding remote, put it in pocket, forgot about it, almost put it in washer/dryer :o
ubergeek22 09-17-2002, 05:20 PM DON'T use those keyring things...I actually managed to loose one, discovered it several months later while camping, wrapped in a pair of hiking socks - it had muffled the beeping  Good technology can be so useless sometimes.
OK, look between the matress and the box spring.
davidb 09-17-2002, 08:00 PM its a bed made of air :)

Chicken 09-17-2002, 09:41 PM So your theory is that he died and went to heaven? Me thinks he may have kicked the bucket, but without the remote, he may have gone down not up. Hell is a TV without a remote.
What?! Get up and change the channel??? Pfffffftttttt...
susannad 09-17-2002, 10:03 PM I feel your pain
what about your wardrobe ?
clothes drawers ?
laundry basket ?
washing machine (don't laugh I've found things in my washing machine)
unless you have a canine companion ?
davidb 09-17-2002, 10:27 PM what about your wardrobe ? checked the closet
clothes drawers ? dont have one, just a closet
laundry basket ? the count is to 4 times now
washing machine (don't laugh I've found things in my washing machine) I checked, even though I didnt use it since friday

He could be telepathically changing the channel. :D
susannad 09-18-2002, 03:51 AM do you wear pajamas ?

ur not trying to say it accidentally slipped up his  while he was asleep??
I suggest you go out and get an all in one remote ;)
Cos if it really has slipped up where the sun dont shine it may be lodged there for some time
susannad 09-18-2002, 08:46 AM actually I meant nothing like that at all
I was thinking that he may possibly have pockets in ' em
(if he had pajamas)
wash your mouth out before I tell your mother what you said

He had pockets in his pyjamas but it were not stitched (maybe for some pleasure)
:argue:
webarama 09-18-2002, 09:49 AM Never fear, you will find it in the last place you look.
When I loose things, they often seem to show up in places I thought I looked.
davidb 09-18-2002, 04:18 PM even if I was plastered before I fell alseep I dont think it would go there... And lets say that it did, I sure hope that I would of at least noticed...
susannad 09-19-2002, 12:16 AM OK here's a silly one .. but usually what you're looking for turns up in a silly place
what about on top of the TV ? behind it ? under it ? beside it ?
inside your pillow case ?
inside a shoe ?
Ultravox 09-19-2002, 07:30 AM I have a suggestion. Hire a sniffer dog and you will get it. :wavey:
davidb 09-19-2002, 12:13 PM I think I figured something out. I think that I slept walked with it. The last two times I drank(sunday(the day I lost it) and yesterday). I was sober by the time I went to bed, but when I woke up today at 5am, I was sleeping on the floor in a room across my apartment. That gives me reason to belive I slept walked with it :)

Maybe you threw it out the window?
Reptilian Feline 09-20-2002, 02:22 AM If you sleep walk, then you have to search the entire neighbourhood.
Studio64 09-20-2002, 03:37 AM OK... I've been reading this post over the last week...
Two days ago.. Guess what happened...
The remote for my digital cable box is missing..
I'm deadly serious.. It's been MIA now for 48 hours and it really is driving me crazy...
I think this thread is giving off very bad vibes...
I seriously do not wish this horrible event on anyone else...
susannad 09-20-2002, 06:37 PM OK now search the other room
