What is the point of making members change their passwords? I signed in today and got told my password had expired, that was the 1st irritation, then I go to the page to change my password, I enter all the info then it tells me my password is incorrect, 2nd irritation, so I go back and reattempt this 3 times, still didn't work, 3rd irritation, so I request for my password to be sent to me, I did that twice, waited and waited for the emails but nothing came, 4th irritation, so I gave up waiting for those emails and eventually re-registered. What a pain. I honestly see no point whatsoever in forcing members to change their passwords. It's pointless and irritating. I frequent many many other forums and this is the first one I have come across that does this. Why? What's the point?

I noticed this not too long ago as well, but it was a quick process and had no problems changing it. I suppose it's just incase the database gets compromised, they want to make sure nobody's account gets used by anybody but themselves. I've worked at a few places where this was mandatory every 30 days.

The password change requirement was a precautionary measure last October for reasons explained here (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?p=5383498#post5383498). Everyone has had to change their password, and I haven't heard anyone else describe the problems you had. We'll take a look at what's happening.
Since we allow one account per member, I'll merge your new account with your other account for you. :)

Thanks for the explanation, writespeak.
As an aside, I try to change my own passwords every so often when I remember. It seems to make security a little better, just in case a password has been compromised / guessed in the past.

the forum should hold security standards to it's users.

I don't mind WHT's interception to password changes.
For a start it stops the following stuff from happening. ;)

I'm not sure if wht.nl is anything to do with here.
